Weather Study for Grades 2, K and Pre-k

Recommended Posts

I'd like to study weather over the summer with my kids, who will be in second grade, kindergarten, and preschool in the fall. My rising K student is very interested in the weather and we've checked out many books from the library on the topic, including Magic School Bus and Lets-Read-and-Find-Out-Science. We'll probably read some of those again, but I'm wondering what other books, kits, or programs you have used and enjoyed to study weather. I think we'd enjoy something slightly above the Magic School Bus and LRAFOS.

RSO's Earth and Space has weather experiments, and it's in the free sample. We used it when we did our weather unit, though we only spent 3 weeks on weather. Otherwise, I just checked out whatever weather/forecasting/natural disaster type books I could find. My first grader LOVES weather. One of his favorite shows is Storm Chasers, and he's always talking about what type of tornado a particular object could withstand.

Anyway, they had fun with the RSO experiments. They're not that deep, but they'd be good for the preK and K'er and still fun for the 2nd grader. I had to add in some info on clouds, as that wasn't in there.
