Ibbygirl
not to mention tricky maneuvering to avoid being caught in the sun's gravitational pull, NASA's Messenger probe is now in Mercury's orbit. :hurray: And you thought road trips in the car with kids were long!! :D You can see some images here and learn more about Messenger's mission here. I just think it's so amazing the science and technology that went into realizing this mission. Pretty cool! :)

Ibbygirl
Really cool. It looks exactly as I imagined. :) To me, it looks like a big rock almost like the moon but more rocky than sandy. I get taken aback when I see the pictures of the planet and then the blackness of space all around it. Something about it always makes me feel like I need to gasp for air. I try imagine what it must be for the astronauts who do "space walks" and are just OUT THERE in all that black. It must be so scary! Pretty amazing what science has done. It boggles the mind. :)
