mnemom
My dd6 is very curious about literary and grammar terms. She loves learning the "hard" words like hyperbole, onomatopoeia, etc. Is there some kind of fun book that incorporates these terms? I am thinking (wishing?) of something along the lines of Penrose the Mathematical Cat, but with a language focus instead of math. I would really appreciate any recommendations! 5Wizards
I've read that this one is good. http://www.amazon.com/You-Were-Onomatopoeia-Word-Fun/dp/1404840982/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2JBQA1CC6BX7I&colid=3SYU04RW1YH8Z If you look at the part where "customers who bought this also liked" area, there are more listed. Momling
My girls liked the books by Brian Cleary: http://www.amazon.com/Hairy-Scary-Ordinary-Adjective-Categorical/dp/1575055546/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300944390&sr=8-1 Or the kids books by Lynne Truss: http://www.amazon.com/Eats-Shoots-Leaves-Commas-Difference/dp/0399244913/ref=pd_sim_b_25 You might also just get her MCT Grammar Island and Music of the Hemispheres. If I had known about it when my older was 6, I totally would have read it with her.
mnemom
Thank you so much for these recommendations! I just requested a bunch of the books from my library and am also looking at the MCT website. I had never heard of MCT and it looks fantastic! I have been struggling with FLL, as the lessons come off as very stilted to me. I like the content of them, but the delivery is just so blah. I think the general setup and prose of the MCT books is more my style. Expensive but I think it's what I'm looking for. Thanks again!
