tjarnold
Hi, all, I've used IEW's Phonetic Zoo with one of my children, and it dramatically improved her spelling. I now have a younger child coming along, and I'm considering various spelling program options. I'd love to be able to use something that won't take much assistance from mom. Phonetic Zoo is appealing because a) I already own it, and b) it's very self-directed. However, I'm worried that even though this child is a good reader for her age (reading Nate the Great books at age 5) and LOVES spelling, I'd be asking too much to have her start PZ by next fall. What are your opinions? The other option at this point seems to be Spelling Workout, which I've used a bit in the past. Thanks, Tiffany
Beach Mom
IMO, if this is your 5yo, I think it could be a stretch. I think Veritas recommends this as a 2nd or 3rd grade program and IEW says age 9 and up or grade 3. Having to write fast enough to keep up with the CD would have frustrated my kids at that age. Dawn E
At convention IEW had the first two levels of All About Spelling displayed as what to do prior to starting Phonetic Zoo.
Meriwether
My oldest Dd did Phonetic Zoo A as a newly turned 6 year old. I had her sit by the CD player and push pause if she needed to. She is a natural speller, though.
