Not Bible study, but Bible as a class?

I use primarily secular materials. Next year I will use Streams of Civilizations or HO for the 5th grade, Ancients the second time. If I use HO, I do need a Bible study that accompanies for Biblical historical fact or presentation. So, whether it is going through the Bible as a text or retelling the stories as it pertains to the chronological history of the Bible is of no matter or differentiation to me. I want the historical following or retelling without so much "preaching" KWIM?

Any ideas?

This is a tuff one for me. I am torn between several, but I cannot find enough examples to discover the content.

Great minds of the board I seek your knowledge. :D

Victor Journey and Old Testament Days would make what I want. :) I will have the Bible Atlas. I may use both of these resources even if I go with SoC I .

Thank you!

Victor, OT Days, and an atlas should do it, if you add in the stories/events themselves. Will SOC be your source for that?

What I like about the Selina Hasting's children's Bible is that it just gives you the stories, no preaching (and I'm a Christian, but I prefer to do my own preaching to my kids, LOL). ;) The illustrations are authentic and well-researched, I think, and add to the child's understanding of the story. You could use Hastings as a read aloud with your 4/5 year old, have your 10/11 year old listening in, then have your older student read the story from the actual "source" -- the Bible itself.

I do think that all well-educated students should at least be familiar with the most essential stories from the Bible, regardless of personal faith. If you want something that lays out the "timeline" of the biblical events and the structure of the biblical books, there's always this:

http://www.amazon.com/What-Bible-About-Young-Explorers/dp/0830723633/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1300449990&sr=8-4

I used this with my middler church classes for years, and it laid a good foundation of understanding. It's targeted for the middle reading range -- 9 to 12 years old -- and explains the structure of the Bible very nicely. But (at least in the earlier editions I used), Henrietta Mears (the original author) definitely brought out her viewpoints on the spiritual significance of the events.... so if you just want the events themselves, I'd go with the Hastings book or something similar. HTH.

Yes SOC would be my spine so to speak. As I have moved forward with this, I am looking more at mixing HO and SOC with a coorelated biblical study using VJ and OTD(for the crafts and such), a Bible Atlas, and a children's Bible.

I will begin to play with this soon. All of the wonderful resources mentioned here and on other threads are pulling together nicely. I only have to plan! LOL (I am still suffering science woes :( which is another story) :D

I like the What the Bible's About book. This with the children's bible or instead of?
