For my younger daughter we are using the First Reader. She reads the story out loud to me, she uses it as copywork(we divide it into 4 sections) for the words at the end of the story I write them on index cards and we use them to identify the parts of speech, put them in alphabetical order, singular and plural and she also spells them out loud. If she gets any wrong, we write them a few times.

My other daughter is working in the second reader and we discussed the words, spelled them, and discussed parts of speech.

Just an example, I ask them to find 2 nouns, then I will say find a plural noun/singular noun, we will discuss any rules that go with it(foot/feet, just adding s or drop y add ies...) then I asked the older one to find a word that can be a noun or verb and we also discuss hymonyms...

We have really been enjoying our lessons:) They actually ask to do them!
