mama2cntrykids Posted January 27, 2011 Share Posted January 27, 2011 He will be in 5th grade next fall and we really need something that isn't too teacher intensive as I'll have an infant by then. Right now we're doing Writing Strands and he doesn't like it because they keep having him write stories (he says) and the way they teach is hard for him to follow. Is there a better alternative? It's called "Jump In: A workbook for reluctant and eager writers." I like that is teaching him to write different types of papers but it is broken down into smaller steps. Lostinabook Posted January 28, 2011 Share Posted January 28, 2011 I think SWB's Writing with Skill is supposed to be out this fall. It's very specific in its instructions and it does not ask the student to come up with subject matter. It does require some instructor interaction though--how much would depend upon the student.
