Help me write a nonfiction book proposal...

I don't think you're supposed to have the whole thing written for those, maybe just a sample chapter? What else do I need to know?

 

I'm not an expert in the field or anything, I've just seen a hole in the market.

From How to Write Attention-Grabbing Query and Cover Letters by John Wood, the chapter on nonfiction book proposals gives this:

 

1. Synopsis of the book (one-plus pages).

2. Table of contents (one page).

3. Chapter summaries (ten-plus pages, one to three pages per chapter).

4. Market analysis - cost, demographics, competition, promotion (two plus pages).

5. Author's qualifications (one page).

Total length: fifteen-plus pages.

It's not necessary to have written the book, but you would obviously do better to express clearly what you expect to be able to do.

Thank you--most of that I can very easily do. Not sure how I'd do a market analysis (!), but I could at least point out the hole in the market.
