Guest Shanna
I am wondering what books you all feel are must reads. I would like to find "children's" versions of Iliad and Odyssey. What are you glad that your child read or wish they would have read? We are specifically going to be studying Creation to Resurrection. Julie in GA
For children's versions, I really like Black Ships Before Troy, by Rosemary Sutcliff, The Tale of Troy, The Wanderings of Odysseus, also by Sutcliff, and In Search of a Homeland, by Penelope Lively. (The last one is actually the story of the Aeneid.)
Wendy in ME
We really enjoyed The Children's Homer as a read aloud. I think it would be difficult for independent reading but by older sons (9 and 11) loved it. We have now moved on to The Golden Fleece by the same author. Jenny in Atl
We also like Children's Homer, The Cat of Bubastes (Henty) and The Trojan War by Coolidge.
Rebecca in VA
I will be e-mailing you with some titles that we used in our TOG Year 1 Upper Grammar group this year. You're a neighbor (I recognize your name from the homeschool e-mail loop), and you're welcome to stop by and look at them sometime.
Mommy22alyns
Barbara Leonie Picard's versions of The Iliad and The Odyssey are very readable - I'm not sure what level they'd be at though.
