Aren't the Steams of Civilization volumes Jr High texts? I think I would use both volumes in one year for a high school level World History course, like how some use both volumes of All American History in one year for a high school level US History course. I use them but only as resources, not on their own.

CLP uses them for 9th (Ancient History) & 10th grades (Modern World History), along with doing the projects assigned in each chapter, tests, etc.

Beautiful Feet uses volume 1 for Junior or Senior Hi, but adds a LOT of other books.

MFW uses portions of Streams as background information in elementary to middle school (and briefly refers to it on occasion in high school).

I think it depends on how you use it, how much you expect to be retained, and how many extras you add. Also, I'll add that I love Streams volume 1, but have read that volume 2 leaves out or skims over some important historical events? Haven't read it, myself.

No, they're definitely high school level texts, especially if you do the projects, research assignments, tests, timeline, etc. Your child would get *really* bogged down if you tried to do both volumes in one year at this level.

As Julie said, you could do both in one year if you were only skimming/doing sections of them, and not doing all the assignments.

Here's how CLP/CLASS uses them, giving one full credit for each volume/year:

Volume 1:

Thanks to both of you for clarifying! When I bought them from CLP years ago they were listed as Jr High texts. I didn't even look to see how CLASS used them because I was never interested in it. I use them as resources for my history program (TRISMS) and have no intention of using them as sole texts for a course.
