Janie
Is anyone familiar with using BOTH of these books? Is it over-do, redundant? Years ago, we read both at different times. I remember thinking that Guerber's books are more substantive. Anyone? Thanks!
profmom
We're nearly finished with Story of the Ancient World and have loved it! In looking through TOG2, I noticed that the Guerber books are listed with the dialectic books and the Famous Men books are in upper grammar. Maybe that is helpful for you? Julie in GA
Yes -- the Famous Men Series are simpler. For grammar stage up to 6th grade we use "Famous Men." I've looked through Guerber, and it's definitely for logic stage & up.
Narrow Gate Academy
We have used both of these books although not at the same time. The Guerber books and the Famous Men books do overlap a lot. Famous Men are appropriate for grammar stage. The Guerber Middle Ages and Renaissance/Reformation books are definitely logic stage. The other Guerber books could be used for upper grammar or logic. (My 3rd grader enjoys reading them.) If you wanted to use both books, I would suggest using one as a read aloud and the other as assigned independent reading.
