Guest
What are your favorite US history books for K/1st age...I'm overwhelmed by all of the different curricula lists, (not being able to see each and every one of the millions out there!) and I'd love to add some to our home library, but I want age appropriate books. I'm looking for books that can be read in one sitting, as well as chapter books. So what have been your favs?
dcurry
My absolute favorite Early American History for the early grades was Beautiful Feet. The curriculum works for grades 1-3. I used it for my oldest 2 children when they were in 1st & 3rd grades, and am looking forward to using it again with my 3 youngest in the next year or two when we get around to American History again. It was well-laid out, and my kids still have a composition book of the things they learned during the year. The books had pictures to copy, and the kids color the pictures with colored pencils as you read to them. There were activities, scripture readings (not sure if you want Biblical or not), picture books for Abraham Lincoln & others, as well as some chapter books. My oldest is in high school now, and while I have found other history curriculum I like, nothing has yet come close to that one for the early grades (and American History). twoxcell
We just finished Squanto Friend of the pilgrims, and my ds loved it. We are also using some CLP US history readers along with Beyond Little Hearts For His Glory, and they have been good so far.
