Can someone suggest good program for American history (k-3) to combine with Core 3. Need a good spine as Landmark will not do for my SID son which I am trying to combine with his siter doing Core 3 and also some very easy readers like K level, basis 3-4 letter words and some sight words that could tie in. Some easy pictures books that we can do paired reading... Thanks for the help. I am new to this HS thing and the original plan was to do two cores but then life happened. My parents in love (in laws) passed away in a plane crash in Lybia on 12052010 and school took an complete halt. I have been sick and might need surgery and all the paperwork that we need to sort out I cannot do two Cores...

My kids are only 18 months apart and my son can sit in and listen to reading but cannot read at all. His math has improved since being home... Also due to time constraints the SL's LA is not for us. I need a more work book, self directed all in one LA, some suggestions??? Thanks again...:confused1:

Hi! Welcome to the WTM boards! You will get a lot of good help here! I'm sorry for all your family is dealing with. Try to keep things simple this year. Your kids will learn!

We use Rod and Staff for LA, but it's not a workbook, so I'm not sure that would help you out. I know the others here will have good recommendations.

Here are our favorite beginning readers: http://www.amazon.com/Bob-Books-Set-Beginning-Readers/dp/0439845009/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279496733&sr=8-1 That is the first set and you can keep going up from there. They are kind of pricey, but you can probably find them used. Or really you could just make your own little readers for him.

After we finish Bob Books, we go to these http://www.timberdoodle.com/Pathway_Readers_First_Grade_Set_p/480-015.htm Again, they have several sets. They are really simple little sweet stories that increase in difficulty.

You might want to look at the Beautiful Feet American History primary booklist to find some books for your son to go along with Core 3.

Hope this helps some!

First I am sorry for your family's loss.

Winterpromise has an American history that would probably fit well with Core 3 if you are looking for books to add to for your younger one. Also Heart of Dakota has some programs for the 6-8 age range. Though I'm not sure how they would fit with Core 3. Guest Hollow has the free schedule for American history and also uses some great books with pictures like Winterpromise does that would keep a child's attention longer. As for readers, Winterpromise may have some listed in their LA 1 that tie in with American history. Though they are tougher than a K level. For just regular K level readers, Nora Gaydos has a few wonderful sets that my kids love!

I'd recommend Mara Pratt's American History Stories. They are all online here:

http://www.mainlesson.com/displayauthor.php?author=pratt

and they are good for that age with short easy readings.

Also for the younger, there are a bunch of American History leveled books by Step Into Reading and I Can Read Books. Those might work well for your younger. If you'd like my list, just let me know and I'll send it to you. To me, its much easier combining them in one core like this by adding easy readers for the youngest.

Good luck,

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at WP but their K level is too advanced. BFB seem ok as add ins but I dought he could read it all by himself but we will try some paired reading...

Will look at the other suggestions.

A Child Story of American History seems ok. Anyone had any experience with it...
