dragons in the flower bed
One child read and loved them at age four. The other two each read the first book at age six and weren't interested. We'll try again at eleven, I think, following the rule about being the same age as the protagonist.
DaffodilDreams
My dd is 6.5 and is almost done with book 4. The books don't scare her at all. She has only seen one of the movies and asked to fast forward through the more intense parts. She seems to be more deeply affected by seeing something than by reading or hearing about something. 4besitos
My son started reading these at 9; he is an avid reader.
Hannah C.
I didn't read them until about 12, because when they first came out my parents were dubious about them. I read the first four books within a month. I think the later books may not be very appropriate for 8 year olds, but the first ones certainly are. The books get darker and more adult as the characters age.
