mryann
My sister is moving Richmond VA in August and is looking for homes next week. She is looking for some property with a few acres but not a horrible commute to downtown where he husband's job is located. Anyone have any advice regarding location? Home-schooling groups? Any advice for getting settled in this area? Thanks! I just realized that I put this in the wrong category. So sorry! Pamela H in Texas
I've been here a few weeks so I'm not really one to listen to. However, I have to say that we LOVE the area we're in. We're in Bon Air. Midlothian, Chesterfield, Bon Air...other people would say Glen Allen but I've been there only one time (for my dd to take a certification test). Oh, right up the street here (we're a mile from Chesterfield Mall if you google), there is a home Educators Resource or something similar to that name wise. And there is VERY obviously a lot of homeschoolers because school gets out today but there have been kids EVERYWHERE all dall all month. Oh, most people around here seem to have a little land (though most of the houses here are a bit bigger which you didn't mention about). And I drove to a job interview downtown this morning and it took me 25 minutes. Hope this helps even just a tiny bit :)
mryann
thanks Pamela! Any other Virginians?
NaturalMomma
I currently reside in Richmond, but I have been here for only a few years. In my opinion, your sister may want to look in Chesterfield County Midlothian area. It's not that far from the city and the homes in that area tend to have more land around them. The homeschooling groups are very active. Here are links to a few homeschool groups, as well as the homeschool organizations in the area. The Yahoo groups a pretty active. I am sure someone who knows a little more than me will direct her to the right area.
