Also, it seems some of you are using the book ahead of what grade you dc are in. Is that what you would recommend? Say, the grade 10 book for my 9th grader? Say, the grade 10 book for my 9th grader?Thanks, Kristi This is what we used for 9th grade and I really like it. I like that it is thorough and comprehensive. It includes composition, grammar, and literature. We used workbooks for composition and grammar exercises but you don't have to as the textbook also includes exercises. It has detailed assignments for writing essays for each unit. For vocabulary we added in using Glencoe vocabulary workbook. One thing is that the literature are excerpts of books, if you prefer you could have your student either read the full book or pick a different book that is similar. For assignments it was easy. They would do the workbook exercises and then end of each composition unit they would do a writing in action essay and a literature model assignment. For grammar, they just did the workbook exercises and some of the textbook exercises and grammar unit tests from the textbook. Then we just added in other essay writing assignments as we went along. We did a grade in advance because our twins did grade 9 language arts in public school 8th grade. Ds has Asperger Syndrome and there was no way he would be convinced to "repeat" grade 9 language arts. So I bought the grade 10 to get passed his logic without further battles. Also I felt both my twins were ready for the next level. This year we are "doing" AP English Language and Composition that I am putting together (it won't be listed as AP on their transcripts but they will be preparing for the AP exam).
