DIVE Physics Question

Recommended Posts

We haven't used any of the DIVEs (I'm still afraid to risk a kitten's life) yet, but I'm thinking it could be a good idea for physics. I remember reading a while ago that they do a lot of experiments on expensive equipment which wouldn't be practical to do in real life. We'll be doing Apologia physics this year, and probably Saxon physics next year.

Would the DIVE - which corresponds with Saxon - be helpful along with the Apologia, or would it be better to wait and use it with the Saxon only. From what I'm seeing, there isn't one specifically geared for Apologia physics - am I right?

Thank you for any input from anyone who has used the DIVE. :)

I've asked about Dive/Saxon Physics before with no response. I've been meaning to email Dr. Shormann about why he only has a syllabus for Saxon. I'll get that off today. My ds17 loved Dive Chemistry and we are learning toward using Dive for Physics.

Karen I'd love to know about his reply!

What text did you use for Chemistry?

He got back to me and I'm waiting for his OK to share his email here. He has his reasons for using Saxon.

We used BJUP for Biology and Chemistry

Here's his response:

"Hi Karen,

Because of the Saxon format(incremental approach with continual review), it

would be very confusing to correlate it with another text, which is why I do

not make cross-reference syllabi for DIVE Physics. I have had great success

using Saxon physics, so much so that I haven't put much effort into

comparing it with other texts. It is an AP level book, designed to prepare

students for the AP Physics B exam. If your son enjoyed the challenge and

Christian foundation of DIVE Chemistry, and if he is up to speed with his

mathematics (Alg. 2/Geometry prerequisite), then he will enjoy DIVE Physics.

If you use DIVE Physics, I would encourage you to have him take the AP

Physics exam next May. We have a CLEP Professor Physics course that he can use to prepare for the AP Exam. It has more lectures and 3 practice AP

exams. Please let me know if you have other questions.

God bless,

David E. Shormann, PhD"

Karen - thank you!!! Great info from him!!!

It sounds like we'll wait for next year to get the DIVE and do Saxon physics with it. It's great to hear that it's considered AP and will be good prep for the test. :)

Would be great to hear from anyone who has used it and their impressions of the labs and all too.

I guess the other science DIVEs can be used with a variety of texts since it's easier to cross reference the topics. :)
