ChicoryChick Posted May 14, 2010 Share Posted May 14, 2010 looking for a curriculum with American composers such as: Stephan Foster John Philip Sousa Irving Berlin George Gershwin Leonard Bernstein Charles Ives Cole Porter Henry Mancini Frank Zappa Scott Joplin Johnny Mercer Harry Warren Aaron Copland Rogers & Hammerstein Does such a curriculum exist or do I need to make up my own? momto2Cs Posted May 14, 2010 Share Posted May 14, 2010 I'd recommend looking at Classics for Kids. They have a LOT of info on their website, including American composers. For example, selecting George Gershwin off your list, they have a brief biography and music clips. It isn't a LOT, but it makes a great jumping off point. You could always choose composers from their list, read their intro, and get library books and cds to supplement, which is what we do. And they have a timeline of composers that is pretty handy.
