Question about SOTW maps in student pages

I've been photocopying the maps from my SOTW 2 activity guide for my dc to use, but the grey shaded areas (in the oceans and seas) don't show up on my photocopies. I use the original map for my son, who needs the shading for guidance, but my daughter would like it as well. I bought some SOTW 3 student pages (for next year) second hand, thinking those maps would have the shading, but they don't! Is the activity guide the only place to get maps with shading?

If you have a scanner, you should be able to scan in grayscale instead of black and white. The scanner programs give you a choice between b/w, grayscale, and color. That way the shading will show up. I'm not sure if that can be adjusted on a regular copier.

I do have a scanner...I can't remember if I've tried that yet or not. Thanks!
