Don't know if this helps but when we were in Germany, the friends we had with kids applying to come to the US didn't hear about things like placement until late in the year. For German students coming to the US, host families was a big issue. Good luck. I hope he gets in. Germany is awesome and the people I've met who've done this program spoke highly of it.
