I found a fun book for studying schemes and tropes

Recommended Posts

Ds21 and I have been working our way through Corbett's rhetoric text and as I was going through some old books today I came upon The Thirteen Clocks by James Thurber. It's a completely silly book, as you might expect from Thurber, so could be used as a fun way to learn this stuff. The first chapter alone had examples of alliteration, simile, metaphor, antimetabole, synecdoche, asyndeton, polysyndeton, and assonance. There are probably others in that chapter as well, but I am still learning what they all mean so likely skipped over a few. It's as if Thurber set out to write a book incorporating all these schemes and tropes just to see if he could.:)

Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case anyone here might be looking for a fun way to introduce and teach these stylistic techniques.
