Catherine
A bit of background: ds is dysgraphic. We've not considered it a huge problem, but he's never written any more than is absolutely required, and has managed OK. He's a very good writer, but a very very slow, deliberate writer. He took the SAT when he was 12 as part of a talent search. He got a 5 on the essay. I didn't worry about it. Took PSAT last fall and did very very well on the multiple choice writing section. Took SAT in March (for the last time we thought) and AGAIN got a very high score on the multiple choice, and only a 5 on the essay! He's pretty upset and wants to retake it at the beginning of May. So he's committed to daily, timed writing between now and then. I see his problem as wholly one of fluency, not ability. Please point me to essay prompts or anything else you think might be helpful. Kareni
Take a look at this thread: What would the hive recommend for honing writing skills for the SAT essay??? This will give you some good ideas and also point you back to a post of mine with a link to a free e-book of essay prompts. Also do a tag search on 'sat essay.'
