How graphic/violent is the movie Gandhi?

I would LOVE to be able to watch this with ds7 and dd9, but we don't need any nightmares to which they're somewhat prone.

 

Can anyone describe the level of violence and graphic blood and gore? TIA

I would describe it as somewhat violent and I didn't let my children under the age of 12 watch it.

It seems so personal and there is one scene (actually more than one scene) where lots of people are gunned down by the British, that is very graphic.

I always watch stuff like that first to be aware and make the decision of who is old enough and maybe more importantly, mature enough, to watch it. They need to be able to understand the logic of it. It is very specific about the rights of the people and sometimes we had to stop the movie to explain culture, history.

I shed tears more than once watching this movie and even my tough sons were very quiet during most of the movie.

Highly recommend it, but then most of Ben Kingsley's (plays Ghandi) movies are very compelling to watch.

I love the movie but there is a fair amount of violence. It might be a bit much for little ones who are prone to nightmares.

No blood or gore, but there is at least one scene showing factory guards beating Indians away with clubs, and their battered bodies being carried away. There is an off screen murder with a gun that the viewer hears.
