gandpsmommy
We've never had a charge for placing books on hold. We have a limit: twenty items at a time per card. And recently the library started charging a twenty-five cent per item fine for holds that were processed but not picked up. But even then, if you see that you aren't going to be able to make it to the library in the three-day period you have to pick it up, you can cancel the hold online or call and cancel it, with no repercussions. I think it's ridiculous to charge people for requesting books. I wonder if you could petition the library system to change that.
vonfirmath
We don't have to pay. But we are only allowed to have 5 holds at a time. I seriously -- it means I'm ALWAYS full up on holds and often can't reserve a book when I find one I want to read!
