Daisy
We've always enjoyed our nature study and we've kinda just focused on observation. I never pushed for them to ask questions and the questions they did ask tended to be simple. Today's question? Mom, why does this palm tree have a hairy trunk? It is a California or Mexican Washingonia palm and isn't really "hairy". I'd say it's more fiberous. I cannot find anything! Does anyone know or can point me in the right direction? Guest Lorna
Today's question? Mom, why does this palm tree have a hairy trunk? It isn't exactly about the fibres around the trunk but 'coir' fibres are quite an interesting subject. You could explain that the fibres are there to protect the coconut and perhaps also the trunk. How about you look at what coir is and its uses: Kew Gardens information sheet How Coir is made
