Guest happyarts
I have a 6th grader who really needs some remediation with dictation. I was going to try to use the Writing with Ease book and do the placements. However, her spelling is atrocious. She definitely has a slight learning disability. Her spelling is improving. We are using Phonetic Zoo this year. But, how do I assess her dictation abilities when her spelling is really bad? Thanks, Kathleen
Lori in MS
SWB recommends that you tell her how to spell any words that she doesn't know. Dictation is not to test her spelling but to help her hold the words in her head as she writes and to work on punctuation.
dhudson
SWB also recommends that you can create a dictionary for words that they continually misspell. My kids love theirs. I also let them look at the spelling of hard words before I do the dictation.
