Heather in the Kootenays
My berries are beautiful looking but not very sweet. Any thoughts as to why that might be??
OHGrandma
Variety? Temperature, is it cooler than normal? More water than usual?

In The Great White North
Are they "falling off in your hand" ripe or could they use another day? If you have to pull them at all, they're not ripe.
Heather in the Kootenays
I don't know what variety they are - I didn't plant them. We've had more rain than usual lately so perhaps that's it. Now that I think about it, my cherries aren't as sweet as they usually are. Or perhaps just to be safe, I'll start a new bed in the spring. I love raspberries and it's so disappointing when the taste doesn't measure up to my expectations.
bclerkin
We are trying to grow berries for the first time this year. I can't wait.
OHGrandma
Heather, have you harvested these berries in the past, and liked them? If so, it's probably an excess of water causing a lack of flavor. Planting new berries might not have helped. Are these black raspberries? There is a wide variety of flavors in the different cultivars. Some people love the red everbearing ones, I don't care for them.
