LND1218
My daugther just did an online Latin camp through Latin and Classics that was great. There is another one coming up in August, and I wanted to share it with anyone who may be interested. She had a lot of fun, and it was inexpensive. Crissy
That does look like fun, Steph. Based on your daughter's experience, would you say it matters how much Latin a student has studied prior to participating? I don't see what ages/levels this is best for. LND1218
No - it doesn't seem to matter. Let me grab her book and list what it covered.
LND1218
It seemed like a good introduction for beginners and a good review for Latin students. I wasn't able to sit and listen all week, so I missed a lot. I had hoped to catch more with her because I struggle with Latin. But even I learned a lot listening very passively. They covered: Lots of Roman Culture - houses, names, places, food etc Conversational Latin Roman Numerals Vocabularly - a variety - like foods, colors, occupations, family, house features etc. Verb conjugation - endings 5 declentions were introduced, but 1st, 2nd, 2nd Nueter and 3rd were practiced They learned how to translate and worked on Latin sentences and word order Derivatives They made a Latin book online ~ that was really fun! They learned some fun songs and chants for the declentions and the conjugations. They picked Latin names. LND1218
And I forgot to mention they have optional "homework" that they can do if they want to, but it's not required at all.
Crissy
Thank you so much, Steph! It sounds like something both of my boys will enjoy.
LND1218
You are welcome - I am sure your boys will enjoy it. My dd is the same age. She's 11, and she loved it. Have fun!
Guest mom2annie&eliz
I know you said that you missed part of the class--was it recorded so that you could watch it if you wanted to do it?
LND1218
You know it was recorded so you could go back and listen again or if you missed it.
gingersmom
It looks really neat. I am not sure of our schedule in the fall but I am going to keep it in mind. I am not sure though that an 1 1/2 hours maybe too much for my 10 year old.
natalie
I just wanted to thank you for posting this. My daughter is participating in the camp this week. She is having a wonderful time and has already asked me to sign her up for the fall session!
Crissy
Steph, My boys had a *blast* participating in Latin camp this week! Thank you so much for sharing the link and information. Magistra Sheppard had a some minor technical issues in the middle of Friday's class, so they're going to meet up again for an hour on Monday to finish the book. Hunter is thrilled. He wasn't ready end it on Friday afternoon. :)
