Cami in UT
I'm contemplating using BJU 5th grade science for my ds next year. Since I've never used (or even looked at anything from BJU) I'm wondering how it schedules science. Is it a weekly, 2x, 3x, or daily assignments? About how long does it take to do a lesson, I'm looking very general here (like 15 min, 30 min, 1 1/2 hr, 3hrs.)? Also if someone didn't like BJU Science, why? If you totally love it, why? Greta Lea
I've not used the 5th grade book, but have used 4th and 6th. I think for the 5th grade book, you could finish it in a year if you spent an hour 3x a week reading/discussing and doing the workbook page(s). There's also usually about one hands-on activity a week that has a lab page in the workbook for the student to complete. The day you do that activity might take more than an hour. The 6th grade book covers the material very well. My son has enjoyed it.
Ferdie
We are using BJU Science 5 this year and love it. There are 126 lessons so we do 3 to 4 lessons a week, depending on the week. The lessons take about 30 minutes if you go through the reading, oral and written questions: add extra time for experiments. We love the class and I can't believe how much my son is learning. I like the diversity of topics and appreciate the simplicity of the experiments. My son loved making a weather station, growing crystals and making a biome of the rainforest. There are a few writing assignments, too. We are doing this class with the homesat videos and it is one of our favorite classes this year. I know the homesat teacher won an award for this class, so I'm not sure how much of our enjoyment is from the videos vs. curriculum.
