Kiva- SouthernGirlMusings
Hi! My daughter is going into 2nd grade and will be starting her second year of FLL, do we need a writing program like Writing with Ease? I feel like I have missed something here....thanks for the input. dcjlkplus3
I felt I was missing out for writing in first grade - I tried to fill with copywork. WWE 2 was a great fit. To put it with FLL2, we occasionally skipped a narration lesson in FLL2, or didn't do the copywork/dictation exercises for a lesson.
LanaTron
FLL was designed to be all-in-one Lang Arts (except spelling and phonics). If you are doing FLL plus copywork and/or narrations in history and science, you do not need any other writing instruction. Many people, however, want additional writing instruction, and many of them are choosing WWE. WWE is even more explicit in how to teach dc the skills than FLL. Even with using FLL and reading WTM and hearing SWB's "Writing Without Fear" workshop, I still was clueless how to get my dc to give me a decent narration--which is why I'm remediating my middle schoolers with WWE. Thanks to WWE, I am better at that. I do have my younger dc do both FLL and WWE (well one finished FLL 1/2 and is using Growing With Grammar now). We just don't do the copywork/dictation from FLL. Kiva- SouthernGirlMusings
Thank you both for the insight....I do feel that getting a great narration is like pulling teeth from dd so maybe looking at level 2 might be a good thing. We do narrations in science and history as well...maybe I will see if someone local has it so that I can look through it. Thanks again for the insight. dcjlkplus3
WWE does help with narration. You may be able to check the actual test (not the workbooks) out from your library.
LanaTron
Don't assume 2nd grader = level 2 with this curriculum. The text has evaluations so you can place your student where they need to be based on skill. My middle schoolers tested into level 2 and 3, much to my chagrin.
