  1. Hi, My high schooler has elected AP chemistry in school. They use the textbook by Zumdahl. She understands the concepts but struggles with time management during quizzes and tests. Too many calculations, too little time - is her problem. How can I help her with this? Any resources for timed practice? Or should she just work on the textbook questions and time her calculations? Thank you so much, Nan.
  2. RenaInTexas : Thank you so much for your response.I ended up getting 2 accounts in IXL for my twins and it is going pretty well. The practice helped them in their quiz this week and also in their homework problems. Thank you once again. -Nan
  3. Hello! My twins are in 7th grade in public school. Is IXL a good resource for them at their grade level for extra practice? Also, can both of them use one account or should I enroll for membership in separate accounts? Thank you in advance for your time and inputs. Truly appreciate it. Regards, Nan
  4. Thank you so much! I will post in the high school or college board. I apologize for taking space up here. To answer your question, I need more practice with precalculus, geometry, statistics and probablity. Thank you once again for taking the time to clarify. Regards, Nan
  5. H everyone, I am new here. I am trying to get certified in high school math. I have the basic textbooks that have been recommended by the institute for this purpose. However, I think I can benefit from more practice and would appreciate any workbook suggestions for this. I do better with paper books than online , especially for practice . Please do advise. Thanks in advance for your help and insight in this regard. Regards, Nan.
  6. Hi all, I didn't know where to post this; this is the only education forum I watch. I apologize if this is not the right place for this question. Please feel free to direct me elsewhere if you all think it is not. I am studying to be a high school math teacher. I have got the recommended book for the certification and am going through that. I need some more practice in certain topics. What would be a good site for worksheets (with answer keys) for high school math. Thank you so much! Regards, Nan
  7. @MinivanMom - Thank you so much. Really appreciate your quick response. I will look into the Scripps spelling bee site today. On a side note - I wish this forum had a way to show our appreciation in some way for the person who responds to our queries and is helpful. Thanks once again from the bottom of my heart. -Nan.
  8. Hi everyone, I got a note from school today that my son has cleared the class level spelling bee and is qualified to enter the campus level. He has one month to prepare. They have sent a list of words. What else can I use to prepare him in this one month effectively? Thanks, Nan
  9. Thanks everyone! I will look into all the sites mentioned above. My twins had a math test at school last Friday on place values to the trillions (Expanded form notation etc) and they struggled with it. Right now, I am not sure if they are in a place where I can expose them to complex stuff ; I feel like their basic foundation needs to strengthened first which in turn I am hoping will increase their confidence in the subject. They have a test every Friday and hence the reason I want to go parallel with the school. Thanks once again - appreciate all the different suggestions and views :) -Nan
  10. Thanks so much friscomom! I will look into the sites you have mentioned. I looked at beast academt 4a, b, c and d yesterday.. do you think they flow parallel to the school curriculum. Thanks once again for your helpful response. -Nandita
  11. Hello all, My name is Nan, I live in Houston, TX; I have twins in 4th grade going to katy ISD and I am looking to find a math program that can go hand in hand with what is being taught in school. My goal is to stick to the pace that is implemented by the school and just give them more practice at home. I want to keep the practice time to 20 mins - to maintain a good balance between school work, this practice and their extra curricular activities. Would love to hear words of advice, wisdom on what is working for you all. Also - anybody from the same ISD or even TX who has been there done that? Thanks all. -Nan
  12. We have been using explode the code for my soon to be 4 year olds since the past few months. We finished the primers and are currently on Book 1. I am very pleased with the layout of the curriculum and so far it is going very smooth for us. They don't seem to mind the writing and the writing has greatly helped to reinforce the reading. If your kids don't mind the pencil work, then it may be worth giving it a try. Good Luck with your search! -Nan
  13. Hi, I have twins, so will I need two copies of earlybird math? Is there any writing involved? Thanks in advance! -Nan

  15. Thanks so much to everyone for taking the time to respond. I forgot to mention in my original post that I was considering getting CLE 300 math for my daughter. Can I ask how many lessons are there in one LU in math 300?
  16. Hi, I am seriously considering purchasing CLE 300 series for my third grader. I would like to know how much time it takes on an average to complete a lesson? Thanks much! -Nan

  18. Hi, We are currently in Book C of the explode the code primer series. I am not sure how significant the picture letter cards are. Should we go to Book 1 after Book C or go through the picture cards before moving on to Book 1 ? Thanks, Nan
  19. Pris, Thank you so much for your response. I will definitely call K12 tomorrow and inquire. I did look at the sadlier oxford books and it looks like a new book bought from the publisher costs $100 or more. Does this sound right? I looked into the used books for sadlier-oxford, but there are so many kinds to choose from like the teacher's edition, workbook etc. Not sure which one to pick. Do you know if the teacher's edition has review exercises for the students to work on? Or is more like a teacher guide to help the teacher explain concepts? Thanks, Nan
  20. Hi, Does anyone know what math curriculum/textbook K12 online school uses? Thanks, Nan
  21. Hi, Are there practice tests that can be taken at home for these computer based adaptive tests or MAP tests. Thanks, Nan

  23. Hi all, I was looking at Explode the code for preschoolers and was wondering why they do the alphabets in a different sequence. I guess I am used to learning A,B, C etc and doing them out of sequence seems a little wierd to me. Anyone know the reasoning behind this? Thanks, Nan
  24. Hi, I am looking for a book to teach the sound of alphabets. I came across many books that have the 26 alphabets in them with each page for one alphabet ; example - the letter A and an apple picture , B with a Ball picture etc. I am looking for smaller books that focus on alphabets one at a time. What I mean is; the letter A and lots of pictures of words starting with A sound and maybe another book for letter B etc. Even if they are not divided into separate books, I do want more pictures than just one apple. Do these kinds exist? Thanks, Nan
  25. Hi, My daughter just finished her dance mat typing lessons (bbc.co.uk/schools/typing). What can we do next to keep her in touch with the typing skills that she learnt ? Thanks, Nan
