  1. Forming narrations and summaries starts the road to independent writing...so IMO and from what I have read in the book, I would continue on Level 1, focusing on the narrations. And yes continue using FLL4 for the grammar and dictation work.

  2. My oldest is only going into 3rd grade, but I thought I would post anyway.

     

    Does CLE Lang. Arts include the

    grammar, spelling, writing, and penmanship all in one?

     

    Just wondering.;)

     

    Otherwise looks like a fantastic schedule...

     

    We are doing a load similar to this schedule, but adding in composer/picture study, nature study, and art.

  3. Regarding the question above:

     

    It depends on your child. If she does her dictation quite well (without you having to repeat it back several times) and she summaries/narrates well...I think Level 3 would be just right for her.

     

    We did the Level 2 evaluation, and basically if she can do the following she would then move onto Level 3:

     

    -If she complete dictation exercise with one long or two short sentences (with only being told the sentence twice).

    -She should be able to answer questions from a reading passage of 5-6 paragraphs.

    -Then she should be able to summarize the passage in 2-3 sentences.

    -Finally, she needs to be able to take one of her summary sentences as a dictation exercise.

  4. We used them last year with SOTW Vol1. Here are my thoughts:

     

    Pros:

    -all-in-one notebook

    -copywork/narration, coloring/lapbooks, mapwork

    -ideas for additional reading

    -the children liked some of the busywork (crossword puzzles, etc...)

     

    Cons:

    -doesn't follow the exact order of SOTW, there is flipping back and forth through chapters.

    -it doesn't cover all the chapters in SOTW, I felt my children were missing out

    -couldn't find all the info. sometimes to have the children fill in the maps for the children

    -my children don't like to color that often, so their notebooks are quite empty of color

    -too expensive

     

    I'm not using it this year because it is simply too expensive and I don't want the children to have too much extra writing.

  5. Beyond would not follow along with SOTW II, but will give a nice general idea about U.S. history...which I feel my children could benefit from. I love how HOD incorporates Bible/character along with the history and I also love the poetry guidance. I don't know what I'm really saying...:confused: I guess I'm saying I wish I could start Bigger now!

I did a little more digging, and realized Vol III of SOTW would work best with HOD Bigger...too bad.....next year would be best to do Bigger, then....I would try Beyond, but too easy for my 2nd and 3rd grader. I could buy Bigger, at the end of this upcoming school year...it would work well with the end of Vol II of SOTW. I was planning on using the left side primarily...I already own DITHOR and plan to implement it.:001_huh:

I have never used it, but I would use their sample schedule to get an idea...for example it appears the Animal Encyclopedia, Animal Defenses are two books you probably want to buy along with the curriculum guide from WP. I would also, look at your local library/libraries (including interlibrary loans) to see what you can get/borrow for short bits of time. Sorry I couldn't be more help. My post will bump your post, if all else fails!;)

  8. I agree with one of the posters above, with their link to some songs...I did this over a year ago, sang it about five times and they had it down!

     

    Months of the Year

    (to the tune of "Ten Little Indians")

    January, February, March, and April,

    May, June, July, August, and September,

    October, November, and December,

    These are the months of the year.
