  1. I posted earlier today on a different thread about Ellen McHenry's Chemistry. I am so confused as to what to do next year. I used NOEO Biology II a few years ago so went back to take a look at their web site. I am wondering if anyone has used their chemistry III. If so how you liked it, what ages you used it for, and any other info you may want to share. I appreciate all of the help here. I have a hard time making a solid decision without being able to actually look through the book. If you have used NOEO chemistry III, I would love to hear any thoughts on it. Thank you!!
  2. Thank you for the replies. I really need to get my hands on the books before I can make a decision I think. I am almost wondering if I NEED to switch to a more textbook aproach. They just turn me off a bit. My kids are getting older though. I wish it was easier to make these choices. Thanks again I appreciate it.
  3. I have looked at Ellen McHenry's Elements and Carbon Chemisty books and I am wondering if anyone can tell me more. I am thinking about using them for my 6th and 8th grader next year. A few questions I have are: 1. Is it appropriate for this age group? 2. Would I be able to make those books last a year if I used them both? ( I haven't been able to see them in person yet, so I don't know how much there is to the books) 3. Is it fairly easy to use? 4. I am with a charter so I have to turn in work, do the books have work that I would be able to turn in to the school, or would I have to make my own? Any other useful information you might have concerning this program would be great.(If you've used the books, what you thought of them). If I don't end up using this my other option at this point is apologia general science. My kids really don't want to use a textbook for science though. Thanks in advance for your comments.
  4. Thanks for all of the valuable resources. My ds is 10 going into 5th grade so I will take a look at all of the links you sent. Thanks a million. I never even thought about the lego mindstorms. He loves legos, but we have never done the mindstorms. I will have to look into that as well.
  5. I was just wondering if you could tell me more about the Intro to Java? Is this programming? My ds would really love to do programming. He has been using game maker which is drag and drop mostly. Unfortunately I do not have any experience with programming so I don't know how to help him. He really wants to learn though. So could you tell me more about what this is. Thanks
  6. Thank you so much for you helpful advice. I think I will probably stick with saxon for now. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Thanks also for the info on the sale. I am going to take a look now.
  7. Hi, I am new to this board but I am looking for opinions or advice. My dc used saxon math this year. I felt they did well with it. My ds (4th grade) who loves math did great in saxon 65. My dd (6th grade) used saxon 76 and did well. She did have trouble in a few spots that we need to go back and review. A friend of mine lent me her copy of Teaching Textbooks to look at. My dd thinks she likes it and would like to switch to it next year. I am a little unsure about the change. Teaching Textbooks looks like it might not be as challenging. That's coming from someone who has never used it though. I am also worried about having her do it on her own and not knowing where she is on a daily basis in case she needs help. My son is not interested in Teaching Textbooks in the least. If anyone has experience with either of these programs and can give any advice or opinions I would appreciate it. Thanks.
