Is it supposed to be "a historical figure that we admire". Often the historical figure is suppose to be an admired figure. So I would want to make sure that that isn't the unwritten rule or normal interpretation of the purpose.
I think also people worry when they see someone focus on a character like Hitler that they do have some neo-nazi agenda and they are just afraid where it will lead.
I wouldn't necessarily change the subject of the paper, but just make sure they know where you are coming from.

Sounds like it was the adult kid's of the boss who issued the invitation and not the boss. So they may not have thought your DH would have brought his wife and kids and not thought it would cause their little sister an issue going to bed. Then I'll bet the kids blamed you guys for why little sis was not in bed.
If the parents were there, it probably would have been handled better. I think it was just an awkward situation.
I would let it go. But maybe be a little hesitant about future invitations especially they could lead to an awkward situation.

Edward Lear ?
I would try an anthology and then once he finds individual poems he likes, you can get more of the same poet.

I like the look of the knitted one, but crochet for me goes faster. So it depends on whether you want the one that looks better or is finished quicker.
If you do knit, you may want to go to a town hall meeting. I hear that they are great places to knit.

I'm a teacher. I doodle during our staff meetings. Is that better?
No it's not better. Perhaps you don't believe it, but it takes a lot of courage to stand up and conduct meetings. To look out into a crowd of people who are supposed to be listening to you and watch them playing on their cell phones, doodling, knitting, etc., is very discouraging. You are a professional. The least you can do is ACT like you are paying attention even if you are not. It shows respect for the speaker. As a teacher, I'd think you'd understand this.
I guess this is the post where it was suggested that doodling was not okay. '
Who said doodling is not ok?????

I don't understand how taking notes is okay, but doodling is not. How does anyone know that someone is doodling vs note taking unless you are looking closely at their page. I know lots of note takers that are also doodlers and switch back and forth from one to the other.

Best is layers. So I would get a gortex rain coat and then a warm undershirt or long sleeve t-shirts
It is not a surprise that they traditionally wore tweed (wool) and wool sweaters in the British Isle. Wool repels water and is warm. Thin wool cardigans over top of shirts or long-sleeve t-shirts could help too.

So if you leave it, then the person gets their trap back to use again? How awful.

While I think my introvert/extrovert has been steady (I'm in the middle but just a little on the introvert side), what has really changed in my "shyness". I really worked at a certain point to overcome it and it worked. Someone recently couldn't imagine that I was ever shy. I was really surprised.

It can be really hard for the parent to accept then they are less able than when younger. My mom keeps saying that she's going to work to get her strength/energy back, but in reality she will never be able to. Sometimes the kids have a difficult time accepting that their parents will never go back to being the same parents that they remember.
I often tell my DH that if he sees issues that I don't see with my mom, to tell me. I'm afraid that I'll dismiss little things. Little signs that tell you it is not longer safe for her to drive or live by herself.
We do try to take my mom to the grocery store during the week, because it is so busy on weekends and people are too rushed.
It can be really difficult to deal with, but it is also so wonderful that you can help your parents when they need a little help.

Unless they are elected officials, I think it is fine that they knit. People have done it for literally generations. You can easily listen and even watch while knitting. I can't imagine you can do that while playing a game like Angry Birds.
So are hand-held video games banned from the meeting?

I don't know about this year, but you need to be planting some apple trees so that you can harvest the apples for your homemade applesauce next year. :)
If it were my ILs it would be those cooked apples like you get at Cracker Barrel.

I would think stews, chilis, tomato based and broth based soup would all travel well.

Also I think he said this stuff about Afghanistan in regards to something about custody of Suri. Yeah, not going to gain any sympathy that way dude.
I often have wondered how much of it is just him and what if any is the Scientology. He made some weird comments about if you are in a car wreck, that you would want him to come along, for some mysterious reason.

Are you in Virginia? I would say February is the best time for the boxwood, but if you have mild winters then now would probably be okay. Winters put stress on a plant. Pruning puts stress on a plant. So some plants can't stand the double stress.
I know nothing about roses.
