  1. Thank you ladies. If anyone knows of anything else, please let me know. Renae
  2. My daughters would like to take German next year for high school and we are having trouble finding a homeschool curriculum. We would like a curriculum to do in the home, not an online or community college course and something that is more traditional, not immersion. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Renae in AZ Homeschooling 4 girls Wanted them to take Spanish but they hated the idea. German it shall be!
  3. My husband does know some German and will assist them. Renae

  5. Hear is my email for the lady that said she had a lesson plan she could send me. rdbusler@hotmail.com What level EG would I start with for my 2nd/3rd grader?
  6. I really appreciate your input. I am still struggling with what to pick. I really need something for my 2nd/3rd grader. If the program is really good, I could change to it for my 5th, 7th and 8th grader. We have used BJU in the past but since I use a different writing program, I feel I waste half of the book. Is Rod and Staff all grammar or is writing mixed in?
  7. Has anyone used Easy Grammar? If so, how do you like it and how does it work. I just wish to teach grammar because I use IEW for writing at this time. I also have TOG for some writing assignments. Any ideas? Thank you, Renae
  8. I think with Teaching Textbooks you just bump your child to the higher level. I too agree with the idea of more science and the math is not really the biggest emphasis. I think I would choose the one your child would enjoy and do well with. We have used Algebra 1, 7th and 5th grade and my children love TT. I have read that children who have used TT have scored really well and gone on and done very well in college. Renae
  9. I really like GSA. My kids do like the labbook learning style. Sometimes I did supplement with library books. There is a lot of cutting and pasting but the books are so fun to look at latter on and see all they have learned. All you really need to know is in the book. There are assignments you can give to challenge your older children as well. I have also used Apologia's elementary science books paired with Knowledge Box Centrals lapbooks and really love them as well. Renae
  10. I do not have boys but I know that the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) has a full list of suggested books for kids that can't sit still, Books for Boys & Other Children Who Would Rather Make Forts All Day. Here is the link: http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/files/TB-Resources_0.pdf I hope the link works. If not, go to their website and click downloads, then free downloads and you will see it list their. Happy reading, Renae in AZ
  11. I think TOG is the way to go as well. I too have 4 girls and using TOG helps keep at least one subject they can do some things together; especially the fun craft stuff, unit celebrations, or movies. I find them ofen talking about the era we are studying. You can go to their website, click on store and then resource lists. Create an account and then click on the year, level and unit(s) you want and you can view the books used. Also, click on the header "subject" and it will sort the list so you can see literature grouped together. Maybe you can get a feel for what books are listed. This list will not include the alternative book list. You only have access to this when you have the actual material to view. Hope this helps. Renae in AZ
  12. I have used TOG for 2 years and really love it. I would suggest starting slow. Do not do everything. Maybe just history and add more once you grasp that well and get a feel for how things work. If you try to do it all, you will be overwhelmed. They talk about a 4 week fog. Once you get through this, it will be amazing to you how easy TOG really is. I found the 3 weeks in Ancient Egypt to be quiet a lot, so keep going and it will come together. Renae
  13. I have used MFW (elementary) before and am now using TOG. I have never used SL. What I like about TOG, is that my children are all studying the same thing. There is soooooo much there with TOG, you may feel overwhelmed at first but if you decide to try it, really give it some time. You do not need to do everything. I really like it. The rhetoric level is very meaty and you may need to take it a little slow at first. It is a great curriculum. Renae
