I totally understand the frustration w/ CW. I started with Homer for Older Beginners. It was really tough to follow, imo, but I was determined to stick with it regardless. I had been through too many other programs and I was convinced CW was what I was what we needed. I have no secrets. I just did my best day to day to follow the procedures.
We have fininshed CW Diogenes Maxim and I am THRILLED with the results- truly thrilled.
Siloam has posted a lot about using CW and she has been very specific. I would recommend searching her posts.

I never seem to have time to blog anymore (I'm thinking Facebook has something to do with it :tongue_smilie:) My blog, which is mostly TOG, is linked in my signature.
I started TOG over 2 years ago and Karen's blog was immensely helpful.

The best way for us to consistently start school by 8am is to make sure our bedtimes and wake times are consistent. The kids have lights out at 8-8:30 (which means they've been in bed since 7:30 reading books). The adults are lights out by 10pm. Everyone up by 6-6:30.
Before bed...
Kitchen is spotless.
Breakfast is prepped.
Kids' rooms are clean.
In the morning we...
Eat breakfast & clean up
Get dressed & brush our teeth.
Make the beds.
I check email.
That's pretty much it. We always start school by 8am.
We stick to the same schedule 7 days a week. We are not really into sleeping in anyway. It feels like half our day is gone if we sleep in.
:iagree:Yes, to all of this. My children are older, so the bed times are later, but they have learned to really appreciate days which begin early. Our school starts by 8:00-8:15.

Yes, the stats are ugly, but my mother 15yrs. ago was diagnosed- stage IV ovarian/uterine. She is now 65 and probably the healthiest person I know.

Do they tend to have certain minors? What do they do? I'm trying, and failing, to imagine when chemists and historians would be working together :D
Basically their stories are the same. They couldn't find a jobs in their fields after college and just kind of fell into this.
One guy does organizational, lab prep. and data recording. He just doesn't do any other the highly technical math/chem. aspects. This happens to be in the atmospheric science field.
The other is a lady who does the same thing, although she had a double major in history/theology. Go figure.
I worked with a guy who had his history degree from William and Mary. He was a loan officer who ended up working his way up to info. security for a credit union.
My dh says they say they enjoy what they are doing and are making more $ than they would have teaching, but they don't regret the history degree. C'est la vie

I have always been a die hard white lighter. Lately, however, I am really liking those big bulb color lights. :glare:

That conversation sound all too familiar. ugh.

I have spent hundreds and ended up not using it. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work. Often you just cannot tell until you use it.
-
Oddly enough my dh, who is a chemist, has known several history majors in different aspects of his field. He has found them to be the most adaptable to changing situations and very good problem solvers.

Upgraded my ring just 3 weeks ago. We added 2 .5 carats to either side of original solitaire. It is lovely.

Like some of the previous posters: 5 or so years for core subjects. unfortunately.

The Biltmore in Asheville is great. It should be about 4 hrs. from mid-TN.

I used Lulu to publish my grandmother's memoirs for my mom and her 3 siblings. It was <50 pages, I had them hardbound and the total was about $80. They turned out great.
