I have used SOTW. I am using and loving TOG.
I would still only use SOTW for youngers.

excellent:D

Incredible craftsmanship! voted.

My dh has been doing it around here for years, without a problem.
Krista
:iagree: years of doing this with no problems for 2 HP printers

I am a devoted TOG user, but I used SOTW with mine when younger and if I had it to do over again, I would still use SOTW for the younger years. SOTW is wonderfully engaging with age appropriate mapping and fun hands-on projects; they truly enjoyed it. That said, if I had children with large gaps between their ages, I may have chosen differently.

:iagree: I'm not the most diplomatic person to ask advice from since I'd probably start the meeting with, "Are you out of your freaking mind?
I am a very diplomatic person and I would start the conversation this way.
The subject matter is inappropriate and entirely unnecessary for this type of venue.

This is our 7th yr. homeschooling and we have attempted several history/lit. programs. We started TOG 2.5 yrs ago and they prefer history studied in this manner. They all have stated that they like the books (with 1 or 2 exceptions over the years) and now as they are older they enjoy the discussions.

NC requires a name.

What she said. There is nothing wrong with TOG writing, other than I don't agree with the philosophy used in the early years. I use WWE, then CW, then I plan to use TOG topics with CW.

:iagree:This is what I am doing also.

I am currently 2/3 of the way through Moby Dick. I decided to read it out of curiosity after hearing many people say how desperately boring it was and an equal amount touting its genius. After reading the first chapter or two, I was hooked. Melville is brilliant.
I doubt I would ever have been able to get through it in high school. My middle dd wants to read it when I am done, so maybe my mental hibernation through high school will not be repeated by my children.

"In the 10th grade, I had an English teacher who got the whole class enthused about vocabulary. He introduced words (like “obsequiousâ€) that I’d never seen before.."
I see her point. None of us would ever be able to foster enthusiasm for vocabulary and expose our children to extraordinary words like obsequious.
I'm now off to re-evaluate all the reasons that I homeschool. ;)

:grouphug: So sorry to hear.

All year for the next school year, but a greater amount in March when I begin to schedule and prepare in earnest.

That is a remarkable stat.

Glad to hear the positive news.

Classical Studies.

Yep. Just I deal with it. I would never ask for help nor show a crack in the armour. Never.
I have come to the conclusion that it is a serious character flaw that needs attention.
It would break my heart if my children felt they were unable to come to me for assistance because they felt they just had to deal and get through.

Check the teacher guides and student WB again. They are all the same size, soft cover books. If you've the poetry books they may also be shielding your Homer.
:iagree:Exactly what I was going to suggest. That is where mine has hidden before.

We pulled all 3 from private school and not because of social, financial or academic problems. We all prefer to homeschool.

I homeschool to feed the control freak aspect of my personality.

I'm the only one (so far) who chose 5-6 hours. It's honestly true.
:iagree: I haven't needed more than 6 hours since my early 20's (now in my 40's). I needed about 10-12 when I was a teen though.

I would only lend what I was willing and able to give away and repurchase.
:iagree: Always my policy with any lending. I count it gone when I lend and am pleased if it happens to comes back.

For me personally, I'd rather give things away to someone who needs it rather than try to sell. But that's just me. :)
:iagree:That is my preference also.
The Semi-Finals are up for my Dad's Wood Turning contest!
