  1. It was amazing to watch totality from our backyard! We had a gorgeous view of the twilight on the lake and mountains we can see from our home.

My parents watched from our hot tub even.

And it was our first beautiful sunny spring day so the whole neighborhood was outside together, like a party. We’re all sunburned lol.

  2. All of our local districts finally decided to let us use a leftover snow day for the eclipse, so we’re off all day now 🙂 just gotta get through the snowstorm tomorrow first!

We’ve invited my parents and brothers family to our backyard deck/ hot tub to watch.

  3. From the sleep thread-

Does anyone have a specific link for recommendations for a cooling memory foam or gel pad for hip pain at night?

Must have a cooling feature/ I’m hit enough at night as it is. Don’t need it to turn into a big wet sponge I’m laying on!

I feel like I’ve seen them at our Sam’s Club maybe but we don’t have stores like Bed  Bath & Beyond anymore.

do you mean like this- https://www.samsclub.com/p/serta-3-cool-nights-gel-memory-foam-mattress-topper/P03016854?xid=plp_product_2

    Thanks so much!

Also- do you put it under your mattress pad to keep it clean and dry?

Three sizes of wardrobes! Yes. Oh my goodness, I thought it was just me.

Are you down to one size? That’s so brave! And impressive. Nice job.

No, I kept some things from each size, but only things I actually like and would wear again. A lot was stuff I bought on clearance in a hurry when I went back to teaching 5 years ago - dressy tops that I don’t like (clingy polyester).
but only one size I kept in the closet- rest in tubs in basement

  5. And as far as the shoes- I just had to donate a pair of Brooks that fit like 6 months ago but a style I rarely wear that were like new. Sigh.

Went through all my clothes today ( I own 3 sizes of wardrobes) & culled so much stuff.

Now only have things that actually fit in my closet at least.

I've been on hold for this book for a long time at the library - I think I'm still in the 300s on the hold list.  Everyone seems to really like it, but I'm so picky that I don't have high expectations.

It wasn’t “spectacular” but I did like it. Haven’t read much from that time period when I was born.  My SIL bought it and I read it after her.

  7. Just finished Kristin Hannah’s The Women about female nurses in Vietnam. I liked it but tough subject. Quick day and a half read.

Finished listening to Coal River (historical fiction) and First Lie Wins (quick thriller).

Just started Steven King’s 11/22/63- it’s 30 hours on audio so will take quite a few commutes to finish!

Not sure what to read next from my library stack- Heaven and Earth Grocery Store is due first so probably that or The Six about female astronauts.

  8. Ok, I’ll reword.

the story is sweet. And it’s too bad that the bus driver had to do it because schools insist on continuing these dress up days that make kids feel bad about themselves and make people barely earning enough money feel like they need to spend it to make kids not feel bad.

This happens every single day in every single school. Not necessarily dress up days- teachers, aides, bus drivers, recess monitors, etc spending their own money to provide students with: snow pants, coats, socks, boots, sneakers, back packs, snacks, hygiene products, food for dinner, etc.

our aides, bus drivers, monitors, etc make minimum wage with no benefits or insurance and yet still but coats and other gear for students at least weekly

  9. This is sweet.
And  now how about public schools stop othering poor kids with a ton of stupid dress up days each year?!

signed- public school teacher who doesn’t participate in dress up days and every single time reminds my students that it’s ok if they choose not to (or can’t, etc)

Great ideas.  Thanks.   I also need some super lightweight shorts with liner or ??? For summer backpacking swimwear.

we will be heading to backpack an island.  I can’t hike in shorts but will want something decent (aka not see through when wet) to go in the lake with that will also be quick dry….and super lightweight

The ll bean vista camp shorts maybe? No liner but super light weight.
