  1. Charlene, You've gotten some great responses. I agree that things to keep hands busy are great tools. My kids often did puzzles, lego, coloring or playmobile during read alouds. One thing that we did at the table during devotional or bible reading was to require the kids to come up with a question and its answer from the reading. They could ask any sibling or parent afterwards to answer the question. They quickly learned that they had to pay attention so they could answer any question, as well as be ready to ask more than one question as often someone would ask the question they had thought of first. We never used it during school read alouds, but I did often quiz them afterwards. It might be fun for your kids to see if they can come up with questions that will stump you. Ours especially liked it when they could come up with something that neither my husband or I could remember. Layne
  2. Thank you so much! You have all been very helpful and given me all the information I needed. I think this is the route we will go next fall. I apologize for not posting my thanks sooner, our internet was down for a few days. ~Layne
  3. Thank you ladies for your help! I think we may end up going with this program. It seems like it will be a good fit. Teresa- Were you able to work at your own pace? If we need to adjust and take a week off does that work? I am assuming that they don't watch the videos at a scheduled class time, is that correct? ~Layne
  4. Hello Ladies, I have not posted on these boards for several years. I do lurk though, and glean from the wealth of imformation available here. I am in the process of choosing a geometry curriculum and am considering using Derek Owens. I have found a little information on the boards, but not much. I was wondering if there was anyone who has used this particular course that could tell me a little more about it. I know he has his own workbooks that he uses with the course, I wondered how those were implemented into the program. Thank you for your help, ~Layne
  5. I'm a complete lurker and never post here, just selfishly gleen from all the wisdom of others. Thanks to Jann we had a wonderful year with Lials last year, I really appreciate her too! Layne
  6. Those same letters bothered me so much that I actually changed them in the book to look like the D'Nealian cursive letters. That is how I am teaching them to ds. He loves the books, he is 6 and has no problem with them which surprised me for how wiggly he can be. BTW I am new so, "Hello to everyone!" :seeya: Layne
