  1. Following this thread as I am also looking for a curriculum for my 7th grader. We used Moving Beyond The Page for part of 6th grade and we did not like it. Too much "busy work" for us. We ended up using a combination of BrainPop, Crash Courses on YouTube, Kahn, YouthDigital and field trips. If you go to the BrainPop educator section, you can select a state or standard. I selected Texas 6th grade and used a checklist to make sure we covered most of the topics. (We are checklist fans around here). My son loved the combination. For 7th, I am looking for something more rigorous, maybe Kolbe Academy.
  2. I second YouthDigital. My 11 yr old has taken several of their Minecraft classes & loves it.
  3. Hi This is my first full year homeschooling my 11 year old who was diagnosed with dysgraphia & I am getting beyond overwhelmed. He would be entering the equivalent of 6th grade. Since is my first full year homeschooling (& I am dealing with health issues) I do not have a lot of experience or stamina pulling resources from many different places so the simpler the program the better for us. My son finished tutoring for spelling but still can't put thoughts on paper, form correct sentences, and his grammar is extremely limited. I am giving up on handwriting for now and he practices keyboarding a couple of times a week, which works well for us. His reading comprehension is above grade level, about high school, but can only express himself verbally not in writting. We had such bad experiences with the school because of his dysgraphia & ADHD that he is starting to dislike traditional learning in general, but he does like reading a lot. Now, most of the homeschooling resources base comprehension on written responses, so how do you deal with that? I know he can give me oral responses but at one point (1) it seems overwhelming to go over every subject verbally and (2) he does need to start to learn to compose his throughts on paper eventually if for college. I thought on using only the literature resources in TWTM and use IEW to work on writing basics. Math using an online program. There are other literature based boxed curriculums I like but again lots of writing to complete the projects. Any sugestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated :-)
