  1. The have a weekly bible study that they do which is very deep and hard for even me to understand it at times. I was kind of surprised at how non kid friendly the curriculum is. She has a best friend in the class. They do a craft and win a prize for completing the study.
  2. We struggle with church too. They go to children's church and she thinks it's so boring too. I can do short bible lessons with her at home. We are going to find a church that is more fun with the lessons.
  3. I have been doing a two hour CBS study once a week. My daughter has high functioning autism and she is 9. I also have a 7 yr old son. Both my kids dread and hate the bible study saying they sit and talk to much. They are very visual and hands on kids. I am torn on what I should do because I think it's a good program I am not thrilled with how the women's group never has time to get deep with each other in the small amount of time that we have. I really thought it would be a great social time for the kids but they hate it so much it's making them not even want to talk about God. The teachers have been great at taking them out of class and walk around when they are bored but since my daughters recent ASD diagnosis I am trying to keep everything that we do beneficial to her social skills. I am not sure what to do.
  4. We started Math u see primer and alpha with my 1st and 3rd grader. We will go through those fast I think. Workbook math isn't cutting it.
  5. Evanthe that sounds so nice! Does your state have to test? I am selling mfw and I ordered some curriculum from Winter promise because there is one with a animal theme and that would be exactly what my daughter needs.
  6. The American history honestly. I can't put my finger on it. I don't like the LA for first grade. I changed my son to doing AAs level 1. I may just stop doing the first grade MFW and just do the Adventures second/third grade history with both. My daughter doesn't like the read alouds though. She is HF autistic and it's hard to get her to read things she is bored with.
  7. I didn't think of ordering the books elsewhere. It doesn't show what all it comes with so it was hard to know.
  8. I ordered the third grade LA and the Themed animal world one and the science Dino one. I hope we like it.
  9. Has anyone used this curriculum? The animal one looks so cute and something my daughter would love.
  10. I am using My fathers world but I am kind of done with the boxed curriculums. Need some more ideas for sun curriculums?
  11. Yes they have magnets. I just had her write the words on a dry erase today.
  12. My daughter is HF autistic. I am doing AAS level 1 but it's too easy for her. She is getting distracted by the tiles and ends up knocking them off etc.
  13. I don't know that it necessarily is the only thing that works. My kids aren't learning from the video. I watch the video and then forget how to teach it and then the teachers manual isn't scripted so I struggle with explaining something.
  14. What if I don't like teaching MUS? I just don't like it. I don't know.
  15. I have that one add book. My husband is critical of me and even ran me down to the kids the other day using me as the bad example because I have a messy car and pick at my fingers. I did confront him and he feels bad now. I told him to look at the huge plank in his own eye!! No one is perfect!!
  16. I feel like I am too unorganized to homeschool but I don't want to give up. I feel like as soon as I organize I can I organize so fast! I tend to be messy and kind of add type. I am just feeling overwhelmed. I want to get more organized and be a neater person but don't know how to stay that way. Can ADD unorganized moms homeschool?
  17. Thanks. That helps. I think I will use CLE math but use manipulatives. As a mom that has a poor math history I am only confident teaching scripted curriculums right now. I know MUS has the videos but they don't help me teach. What's SLD?
  18. I love the looks of this math and have used it on and off in the past. Do you think this math teaches kids well? I like how it's open and go. Math stresses me out.
  19. She actually has a low heart rate. My husband does too. Sometimes I think she is sped up acting because of her low heart rate? It's a sensory thing for sure though.
  20. I have a third grade 9 year old daughter who recently got diagnosed with Autism and sensory issues. My son is almost 7 and in first grade. My daughter is 1st grade maybe second grade level in math. We did Christian Light last year first grade level. I don't feel like she gets math. We are doing Math u see now and starting at the Beta level for my daughter and Primer for my son. I am concerned if I ever have to put them back in school they will be behind in math. I looked up the third grade classroom website at our local school and they are doing division and multiplication. I think the math u see will be good because they focus on one thing for a long time. My daughter cannot memorize flash cards to save her life! It's like everytime I show her a flashcard she can't get it right without counting. I guess I am just worried that if I ever put her back in school that she would be so behind she would be held back and she is already older in her grade level. I am not totally sold on Math U See either. I don't think it's that easy to teach because I'll watch the video and then forget immediately how to explain stuff as we are working through the pages. I like scripted teachers manuals. I liked CLE but the kids aren't thrilled about it. I am wondering if I could use the MUS blocks with CLE when they struggle? I am just worried all the way around because I have a lot of trouble explaining math even to a first grader.

  22. The number bonds in Singapore threw us for a loop. We couldn't get past that.
  23. Yes she also has anxiety. She gets frustrated very easily as well.
