  1. does this affect free-filers? I am not sure, but I do hope your dh get some answers!

As I understand it, it only affects those who paid for their filing out of their refund. Those transactions were handled by a third-party bank. If you paid by credit card, through your bank account, or free filed, you're not affected.

We used Turbo Tax to file and received our rebate via direct deposit today.

  2. I used R&S2 with my second son. He had finished FLL but was just starting 2nd grade. It was the perfect fit as a follow up to FLL for his age and abilities.

My first son went into R&S3 following FLL but he was a year older. (They did FLL together.) I should add that this was the first FLL book for 1st and 2nd grade. I'm not familiar with the subsequent titles and what they cover because we went straight to R&S.

  3. Kay -

When my oldest son went thru Aesop, we were in much the same boat as you. I bought the workbooks because they gave *me* direction, helped *me* come up to speed much more quickly. But I didn't remotely use the workbooks line item by line item for him. We skipped the grammar stuff that was clearly too easy for him. We honed in on the analysis and writing project. Some times we did some quick oral grammar work, just to make sure that his 'theory' was up to a practical application level. Here's an additional way I used the workbooks ... when son was in Level A, I looked to the kind of exercises used in Level B and incorporated some of those into our A work.

    Yup. What she said. :)

  4. We use them about 50% of the time. They are nice for extra practice but I also find that just backing up a few pages in the textbook and having them do a lesson they did last week (again) works just as well for us.

I wouldn't say they are as valuable to the program as the Challenging Word Problems are to Singapore Math. Do you know what I mean?

I think they're completely optional, nice to have, but optional.

  5. It's also possible that they are using a computer that they don't have immediate access to and that's why they want you to call. Hard to know.

That's probably the assumption I would make. I'd still follow the same protocol--preference to the first person who responded but give them time to respond to your reply email--no more than a day.

  6. They don't strike me as weird (too much). It just looks like the messages are written by someone who doesn't pay attention to their writing.

I don't really see the need to call them back if they've emailed you. If the bed is still available I would just email the first person who inquired and let them know your terms and that there are other people interested.

Maybe each Craigslist community is a little different but I've never had to finalize any transaction by telephone--it's always been through email.

Good luck getting rid of your futon--don't you love Craigslist? :)
