  1. My son was just diagnosed with PANS.Pandas is caused by strep but pans can be caused by lots of different types of infections and even environmental stressors. It is something to look at closely. I would start by googling pandas network site.

  2. I never had problems with leakage. But after months of using one intermittently, I had to give up trying. It hurt. I tried cutting the stem of it short and it still was poking me much of the time. I could barely sit with it in, it would always be poking me. I went back to mainly using pads with the occasional tampon when needed.

When I was reading the reviews on Amazon and someone mentioned the same problem they said to turn it inside out(I think) and that fixed the problem.
  3. there is supposition it is fairly common, but there aren't many providers who understand it.

I was livid when I found out dd's provider last year did the genetic test for the mutation (she is homozygous. which means the reduction in function for that gene is as much as 70%.), and then dismissed the results as no. big. deal.

actually, livid doesn't being to cover what I was thinking. at least dd had stopped going to her, and had started going to a ND/provider I suggested. now that it is being treated appropriately, she feels worlds better.

I'm also homozygous and have felt a huge difference in my energy since starting treatment. I just sent my dd(22yo) some vitamims to try too. She had been battling cfs since she was 16 and I'm sure it's going to be the answer for her too. I just wish we had a doctor to work with. I'm doing this on my own. Glad to hear your dd is feeling better. I might have to pm you about this and find out exactly what your doctor is dong for your dd, if you don't mind.

  4. This is a bit off track for the thread, but why would people need more vitamin D than they can get from the sun? There is very little in the human diet, so it seems odd that we would need supplementation above the levels our environment can provide naturally for us. I realize sunscreen prevents vit d formation, but it apparently doesn't take much sun time to make it. I've also heard that showering right after sub exposure disrupts it. Just wondering.

I have no idea why vitamin d levels are so low but last year I spent a month in Arizona and most days at the pool, and when I came back and had my vitamin d level tested I was extremely low. I'm also part Hispanic, just fyi.

  5. I used to deal with it as pms, and I had to push through - and to realize it was "just" pms.

I have a genetic mutation that affects my ability to absorb and use b vitamins, and a few other things (amazing the difference treating it makes). I do mega supplementation. I used an average quality cheap b complex for years, and only noticed the difference when I wasn't taking it for as little as a week. but there was a real difference in how I was able to function. now I use a good quality one. in addition to a good multi, and vitamin d3 (also is a component in mood).

I originally started because we were going through a prolonged, *very* stressful outside circumstance and I had learned stress uses up b -vitamins more than average, so I thought I'd "replace" them to help me function.

and eat well, get plenty of sleep, and exercise. they will help you feel better and function better.

you need to be realistic about your time and "what has to be done" vs "what would be nice to get done. iow: prioritize. it's okay to say "no, I can't do that"

I'm working towards it again, but the best I ever felt, with TONS of energy - was when I ate absolutely no sugar of any kind. I didn't use any artificial sweeteners either. I only exercised 3x per week, but the weight melted off and I was in better shape than when I was in high school - and I ate anything I wanted, and as much as I wanted as long as it didn't have sugar in it.

I'm now cutting sugar back out of my diet.

I think a lot of people have a mutation problem and don't realize it and/or how much it affects their health.

  6. I've been doing it for awhile and love it. I have a few friends that have lost weight on it and look great.

It does have a major learning curve but it's so worth it. The Facebook group is extremely helpful. We also have several ladies at church doing it too, so it's nice to have support.

  7. Does anyone know anything about any good charter or magnet schools? I am always interested in schools that are kind of outside the box. My kids went to a school for a while in a school with something called the responsive classroom. It was a totally different school philosophy and very interesting!

I would love to live in Peachtree City or maybe Senoia. We go to church in Fayetteville and just bought land out there. I think there was a charter school in Tyrone but I will have to check to see if there still is one.

Where will your husband be working? That would make a difference to me on how far out I would move.

just fyi: Walking Dead is filmed in Senoia.

  8. I took my boys in the bathroom with me until they were about 8. At 8, they didn't want to go into the ladies bathroom because they were embarrassed. (they were really tall for their age) I would make them go in together into the men's restroom.

A friend of mine said she would make sure no one was in the men's restroom and let her boys go in and if a man came up while her boys were in the bathroom. she would ask them to wait just a minute for her boys to come out and she said no one ever minded, or at least acted like they didn't.

  9. Thanks for sharing this! That's the recipe I use from THM but now I know why they aren't fluffy. I was watching Good Morning America and Chris Powell mentioned this recipe for losing weight. I thought that was kind of cool.

This is from the best diet ever... Trim Healthy Mama

    Trim Healthy Pancakes

These are sooooo good and makes about 1 dozen pancakes. These were borrowed from a gluten-free blog & happen to be the EXACT recipe I use from the book, Trim Healthy Mama. So good and so good for you. These pancakes give you plenty of protein. I top mine with greek yogurt & fruit. EAT UP!

    Pancakes_are_loved_by_kids.jpg

1 cup oats blended into a fine powder

1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese

1 cup of eggs whites (could be the carton kind)

4 tsp aluminum free baking powder

    2-3 tsp stevia or truvia

    dash of vanilla

after grinding the oats in the blender – add all other ingredients. ..

I suggest you add the baking powder last, when you know you are finished with mixing, this way your baking powder will not over mix and your pancakes will be extra fluffy!

Heat a non stick griddle and cook until you see bubbles, flip and cook some more and you have Trim Healthy Pancakes. We cook on stainless steel sometimes and when it’s nice and hot, the pancakes won’t stick.

  10. I don't know how or why it causes weight gain but I took that medicine for headaches too 15 years ago and the doctor who prescribed it said I would probably gain about 15 pounds which was fine since I had always tried to gain weight. Well I ended up gaining 42 and have struggled ever since with taking weight off. I was only on the meds for about 2-3 months. I think it messes up the metabolism. I have started trim healthy mama and this is the first time I've been able to lose weight on my own.

  11. I agree with Michelle! I am doing trim healthy mama too and have lost 7 pounds so far and have only been on the plan for 4 weeks. I have never been able to lose more than 3 pounds in my own. I tried to do hflc on my own and I couldn't figure it out until I started trim healthy mama. I love their plan and the foods I get to eat!

  12. I take the hemeplex too, with no problems. I have been doing the trim healthy mama diet for about a month now aand had the lightest period ever. usually my periods are very heavy and painful. I am not sure if it's the diet that helped my period since it is HFLC or if it's drinking a quart of water with ginger, apple cider vinegar, and lemon. Either way, I am hoping the next one will be very light too. I read somewhere that apple cider vinegar can lessen bleeding. I use Bragg's apple cider vinegar.

  13. I have a lot of lower back pain too. I have gone to the chiropractor off and on, but not sure if ithelped or not. I started doing kettle bell exercises and it is so much better. be careful that when you start you don't overdo it and make things worse. Before starting the kettle bells, I couldn't vacuum, or mop, clean the bathtub or pick up anything heavy without pulling my back. I love the kettle bells because I can tell they are strengthening my core and I don't have to do crunches or anything like that which I despise doing.

  14. any other lunch ideas for this that's not soups or salads? We're so used to sandwiches its hard to think of anything else.

Chicken stir fry over rice? We do use substitutes like gluten free crackers with tuna or Pioneer Woman's pico de gallo with gluten free corn chips. We also like quinoa salads. I have found a few quinoa salad recipes on Pinterest.
