  1. It seems like you would be happy with the CCM audio. It's just a female voice speaking & singing. If you e-mail the company, they will send you a sample of the audio. For my kids, I find the Catholic Schoolhouse samples a bit more engaging & memorable, though it does have the pop/ synthesized music. I am trying to decide between the two, but as of right now, I am leaning towards CSH primarily because the songs seem like they will be more memorable.
  2. If I had to pick a box, I'd go with Memoria Press.
  3. Nevermind - I discovered that Hillside Education has an answer key available for free as a PDF which answers all of my questions: http://www.hillsideeducation.com/pllanswerkey.pdf Just thought I'd share in case anyone else has the same questions :)
  4. I just received Primary Language Lessons (the Lingua Mater reprint). I have three probably kind of silly questions 1) I think I understand the way it's supposed to work - you might not necessarily finish one lesson per day, but just do a bit at a time depending on the student. Is that right? 2) When you approach a "Selections to Be Memorized" do you stop the written work and not move on to the next lesson until the child has completely memorized the selection? Or do you incorporate dictation/ copywork into the memorization process? Or keep memorizing alongside the following lessons? 3) For the "Reproduction - Oral" lessons, does that mean the teacher reads the short story aloud and then the child does a narration? Or does it mean the child repeats it back orally in short segments? Thanks for reading & for any help!
  5. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who has taken the time to reply! I wish I could respond to each one, but please know just how helpful each response has been with the advice & encouragement! I know this is a busy week, so I especially appreciate it. We had gotten away from everyone having quiet time at the same time of day and I think that + the preparation for Christmas has really taken its toll on me. I'm going to go back through the suggestions & try to see what we can implement after the holidays are over. My husband has the next 11 days off work, so I am hopeful that we can think and pray through this together to establish some better boundaries, guidelines & routines for the new year.
  6. Hi All, I've lurked on the WTM forums for ages and finally decided to join for some advice. I have been trying to homeschool my daughter (age 6). I have two other children - boys... ages 4 and 17 months. She is reading very well and enjoys math. She is inquisitive, creative, and imaginative. I feel like there is SO much I could do with her and which she would be interested in, except... she is easily distracted by her brothers and just wants to play with them AND they are so active that they take up so much of my energy/ time. It's a challenge just to get the basics done (religion, phonics, spelling, math, literature). Some days it's so crazy around here with the boys that we don't even make it to our read-aloud book. The brothers are not interested in/ ready for school. The 4 year old will sit with us for short amounts of time but really has no interest in seat work for longer than 3 minutes. He has his own agenda for the day, where he "goes to work in his truck like daddy" and is in/ out of the house "doing jobs." He is also emotionally volatile and can be a very difficult child to manage. And the toddler is, well, a normal, happy, sometimes clingy toddler who is into everything. Should I: A: Relax...Things will work themselves out and the 6 year old is fine just to do a little school and mostly play for now. B: Look into putting the 4 year old in preschool/ daycare a couple days a week to bring some peace so we can focus on academics with the 6 year old. C: Buckle down and go military-style with the schedule, forcing everyone into compliance. D: Other Thanks for whatever help/ experience/ sympathy/ advice you might have.
