No, I don't put money in a tip jar. My husband always wants to write some kind of tip on a piece of paper and drop it in there. (like- always carry an umbrella in the rain) or something silly. Of course he doesn't actually do that but I don't think the people would find it so funny.

If I could have control over what was being taught and I could afford it then yes I would probably consider this. It is each families decision to make though and people are always going to disagree about things. :001_smile:

Thanks for posting this. I'll have to try it out. :001_smile:

My 8 year olds favorite it macaroni and cheese. He likes very basic foods. Nothing spicy at all, nothing new, nothing with vegetables that he can see.:glare:

Yummy! Thank you so much for posting this. I have been looking for easy homemade recipes that my son could do himself and this is perfect! I am sure he will enjoy making this and I will enjoy eating it. I don't think my thighs will like it though.

My son had the turtle sandbox and it was way to small for him. Also, we lived on a diary at the time and there were a ton of cats. He would forget to put the cover back on and the cats would get in it and use it.:glare: We went through a lot of sand . When the lid cracked on it we started using it for a tiny pool. I would definetly choose one at least an 8x8 size or larger. I love the homemade one that is enclosed. That is awesome! Maybe my husband will make our kids one like that this summer. :)

I don't have an answer for you but my son will be 9 in April and he is the exact same way!! I would love to hear some suggestions as well so hopefully this will bump this to the front and someone will offer an idea.:001_smile:

I have to have a teachers manual to tell me what to do. It would take me forever to try to pull together everything I would need and even then I probably wouldn't feel like it was enough. I like to have somethink telling me to "do pages 1-3, read this, write that." So, no I couldn't do it on my own.

I got a Dyson for Christmas and I love it too. It was bought at Target when they were running a special. If you bought it during a certain time period then you got a $100 Target gift card. I still have the gift card waiting for something that we really need. :001_smile: If you are looking into a Dyson you can try checking out Target to see if they are running anything like this.

This has been a great article. I have often wondered these things myself. My husband is Catholic but I have never been able to get a good answer out of him. Thanks!

I would love to have someone clean my house! I wouldn't pay more than 15.00 an hour though but that's because I'm cheap.:) If I had to pay more than that, I would just do it myself. My house is pretty well maintained, I just hate doing all the little things like dusting and wiping cabinets and the floors.

Thanks for posting this. If I was able to I would. I applaude Salma in what she did.

My son is almost 9 and he is still in a booster. It is automatic to put on our seatbelts and the few times my husband has started to back out thinking our son had his on, he started yelling "STOP, I don't have my seatbelt on!" He does not mind at all still being in one. So, no I don't think you are a fuddy duddy. :001_smile:

The other thing that annoys me about our library is that once something is overdue you can't renew it online. You have to either call or go in.
My library is the same way! I really wish they would just let you renew it online after it's late. It never fails that when I call to renew, everyone else is calling and the line is busy forever. Then I forget to call back and the late fees pile on higher. Maybe that's why they do it?

Funny, I was just thinking I would like to start doing this and then I read this post! I love the picture that was posted of there cloth napkins. They are so cute! It inspired me to go get started on mine.
Thanks!!:001_smile:

I just wanted to say that this topic couldn't have come at a better time. I have really learned a lot and especially enjoyed the post about using 1 chicken for multiple meals. I have a chicken in the fridge that I will be doing this with. I also want to 2nd the use of a garden. If you can start from seeds it is even cheaper and you can get sooo much vegetables from them. Then you can can them and use them during the winter.

After I had my son (he will be 9 in April) my hair started falling out. Everyone told me it was normal and would grow back. Well, it kept falling out slowly but not growing back. I just started wearing a wig the day before Christmas because my hair is soooo thin all you see is scalp. Also, I developed an anxiety disorder right after having him as well. I have been to different doctors and 1 believed it was my thyroid out of wack maybe from the pregnancy but the others don't believe it. So, I am back to not having any answers but knowing it had to do with that pregancy.
I really hope you find the answers you need and everything works out for you.

Oh, and our town is getting a new library set to open next year and I have jokingly said that I am helping to fund that new library with all my fees. :D

Library fees are a sore spot in our house. I recently forgot to renew/return the pile of books that I had. Let's just say it totally slipped my mind....for a while. At .25 cents a day per book, my total was $34.00. Luckily my library lets you still check out even if you owe a fine so I have been paying it down. We still have $5.00 to go. Next time we'll pay it off. Now I make sure I put the due date on the calender as soon as we get home.
Oh, thankfully our library doesn't charge to request books and we can even request books right off the shelf so there waiting when I get there. :001_smile:

My in-laws have a medium sized motor home they let us borrow. We took it for a weekend last year and it was a blast! The thing we forgot was the batteries for the camera. I was so bummed when I was missing all these great moments of our kids playing in the water at the beach and I couldn't take any pictures because the batteries went dead.

I wear socks in the room. I had never thought about the glasses or the coffeemaker, I always assumed they were clean. I don't wear flip flops in the shower though, I would slip and break a leg.:tongue_smilie:If I'm wearing my flip flops on wet cement, I have to go slowly or I slip. I can't imagine them in the shower.

No way!! My in-laws hate that we do and my parents just tolerate it. Others in the family think we are weird and talk about us behind our back. I hate going to family functions because I know they are watching my son like a hawk and I have caught them quizing him!!! His own cousins treat him like an outsider because he is the only one homeschooled out of them. And there are a lot of cousins. He is such a sweet boy with a gentle heart but they don't care. I am getting teary eyed right now thinking about it. :crying: It is so frustrating to not have a family that you can share how things are going in your homeschooling day. I don't even bring up things that my son is doing anymore because I see there faces drop when I do. My parents are a little better about it and will ask how he is doing and what he is learning sometimes. It is so sad that my in-laws never ask about anything my son is doing and I have given up telling them.
