  2. I deleted some PM messages. I haven't as all the schools are closed and will be until at least 4/8 if not through April onwards. Figure the last thing they need to hear is from a homeschooling mom so I haven't contacted them. Figure we'll just be on a wait and see. My kids keep taking their classes and will be prepared as if they are, but I know full well there may be no exam at all or maybe if lucky, a delayed exam. I don't think this whole AP-at-home thing will ever bear any fruit...

  3. Cross-posted...

Schools are likely to not reopen this entire school year in California. Many of us are in a shelter in place lockdown already. The governor made this odd proclamation, but it makes me think - what about those students (like us homeschoolers who *want* and are ready to take the standardized tests and can't). It's fine to say kids shouldn't have the anxiety of test-taking during this crisis, but what about the anxiety of taking an entire AP class all year and not getting to take the AP test as planned? That is anxiety alone. So I think for many, if not all, there may be no AP testing... it's something we need to consider.

The state has applied for a federal waiver that means children would not have to face academic tests once they eventually return to school, said Newsom, a Democrat.

“We think it is totally inappropriate for kids to worry about coming back and being tested," he said.

He also said that California  is requesting a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education to suspend the state’s annual standardized tests for this year. This week, the Legislature extended the window for testing by 45 days. But Newsom said that, in speaking with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and President of the State Board of Education Linda Darling Hammond, he recognized eliminating testing would be best for students.

  5. Please help! I need to do the midyear report transcript...

All of my ds's classes are year-long classes. But he does have 'semester' in-progress grades.

    1. Should I change it from IP ---> A/IP (showing 1st semester/2nd semester)

    2. And if I do reflect semester grades, do I reconfigure GPA? If so, how? Anyone want to help?

  6. We too have experience with both. LIke them both for different types of learners. Mathy, likes computer/video-based courses = DO (my ds took Honors in 11th concurrent with AP Calc/AP Stats and 2 others APs - very manageable for him)

Likes less video-based courses, one-on-one teacher interaction, softer = Clover Creek

I'd concur, don't notice different time amount spent on one or the other. Neither is super easy, but not super hard either.

My dd (taking Clover Creek) also took Physical Science DO and liked it. But I knew Clover Creek was better fit for her - less videos/computers.

  7. same boat here. only 3 he's had. got 3 in 9th, retook in 10th got a 5. we opted to make this course for 10th grade and deleted it as a 9th grade offering.

when we tried to cancel the score it seemed to not specify a particular sitting. and i didn't want his 5 to get cancelled either. so for now, we've just left it and self-reported it. but we're in middle of applications, so idea if this is the best solution.

    so following...

  8. We just followed the syllabus week to week. I'd break it up day by day to give my DS more directed input. He took the Honors version, so had more HW, etc. But he's a mathy, STEM kid at heart so found it pretty easy to tackle. He was in 11th grade. How old is your ds? Just keep plugging away. If you're not adhered to a tight schedule due to AP or SAT II exam, then just take as long as it takes. Try to follow the syllabus, adjust a little as needed.

  9. Hi there!
Can those of you currently or already applied to the UC schools share with me 2 things... Please!!! (Or point to me in the direction of old threads I can't find)

DId you put any information in the Additional Information section (550 words). If so, what? (Did you detail about homeschooling?)
Does UC schools get any type of School Profile or Counselor Info like in Common App? In other words, if no, then is the 'additional information' section the only place to list about details of homeschooling (the whys/hows, etc)?

  10. So my ds has 4 applications in on Nov 1.... working bit by bit. He's got their 'portals' set up and his top choice ED school is showing a bunch of items they don't have... like a homeschooled transcript, first quarter report, etc.... They have my school report/counselor letter - and I sent in the transcript + course descriptions. I'll have him contact the school tomorrow - but anyone have any thoughts? Esp on the transcript request (since that is up to me)??

    Thanks!

OK. Coming up from submarine mode.....  DS submitted Common App to one school and two for Coalition!

And I finished my paperwork just about 1/2 hour ago. Whew! This time he submitted before I did...  Yay!    Thanks everyone for your help so far!! I can't believe this was so complicated.

But truly, this was a lot of work.... and stress. DD is applying next year. I'm going to have to start like in January.

Me too - been hibernating... We too successfully got all our docs in for Nov 1 ED decision... Now a bit of a breather for the weekend and back to it for Nov 30/Dec 1 deadlines. But.... my counselor letter/profile/transcript/course descriptions will remain done - so YAY!

I hope he is feeling better.  It is so hard to be away from them when they are sick.  One time, I drove eight hours in the snow and rented a hotel room with two queen beds, just so my son would have his own bed and bathroom with he was horribly sick.  Having to hike down a hallway to a communal dorm bathroom is no fun, lack of sleep, lack of decent food, dealing with doctor visits and tests.  No fun.

    How sweet!! ❤️

  13. I was 17 and a few months when I started 4 year university way back when. (Had skipped a grade so was always a year older - so a bit different as I started when all my friends started...). My friends were always more or less a year older - and it never seemed a big deal. I don't look back and have any regrets starting at 17... But again, I'd always been a year younger than everyone...
