  1. We have a brick&mortar Jerry's the next town over. It is my 12 yo daughter's favorite place on earth! I've never ordered from them online but the physical store has good prices (some a bit higher than Blick, some a bit lower) and great sales.

Jerry's site is awesome! Look out, Dick Blick, now I have options. It turns out there is a Jerry's Artarama store about an hour away from here. Unfortunately it is a small one without "most of the unique items" online. Pfffft. No fun wanderings through acres of affordable art supplies for us!
  2. it sounds like an unhappy with its location rose.

they do need an amount of sun. some wants lots, some can do okay with just half a day, but they want sun. (as well as nutritious soil and water.

different species and varieties of roses have different needs. some roses are delicate and need to be babied - and some do well in the freeway median with no attention at all.

We brought some of the wild roses down from my parents' mountain home when we bought this house six years ago. The plants have been fine, but they've never flowered. This is just the wrong place for them. They're going home later this spring.

You could not pay me to go back to grafted roses. Own root all the way!

  3. I keep swinging back and forth. He's clueless, he's creepy. I would definitely listen to my gut, OP. You are on the ground and best able to make a decision. At first, I thought maybe this guy just needs a wake up call (a conversation), but now I'm not so sure.

We left a church over youth ministry. It was sad and difficult, but we just did not trust the leadership. It started with a feeling, then progressed to specific issues. We don't regret leaving.

  4. Score for Waldorf Education: 15

    Score for Traditional Education: -8

Score for Unit Studies Education: 6

    Score for Montessori Education: 10

Score for Thomas Jefferson Education: 2

    Score for Unschooling: 8

    Score for Classical Education: 25

Score for Charlotte Mason Education: 23

What a great quiz! I took it before the refinements, but I couldn't post. Now, after the refinements, my CM and Classical scores went up by four and three points respectively. My top three definitely represent how I think about homeschooling and how I try to do it.

I do *really* like a good quiz. I suddenly have a burning desire to find out which Justified character I am most like. I don't know how to make italics on the iPad, so Justified is just going to sit in that sentence as is. 😉

  5. I have the Clarks Wendy in navy and it is one of my favorite shoes. I wear it with skinny jeans, capris, and tailored skirts or dresses. I don't think it ever looks old lady, but with the wrong skirt or dress it can lean a little but mumsy.

  6. I agree with just about every negative opinion so far expressed, and yet I kind of want it. Sort of like Disney. No redeeming value. But I want it, because shiny! I think I'll exercise some self control and stick with Subscribe & Save for now.

  7. I did the sugar/salt switch once when I was a kid. My father was the one who got pranked...and he was NOT AMUSED! It's a sad thing when a person is so serious he can't have a laugh about salty coffee one day of his life. :(

The salt/sugar thing happened at my paternal grandparents' house in 1955. One brother was the perpetrator, the other was blamed. There is an ongoing dispute between my father and my uncle as to who did what that fateful day. I don't think the truth will ever be known!

DS is looking forward to going to the grocery store and handing the cashier Monopoly money.

  8. I am soooo looking forward to this, as my parents and I watched the previous version way back when I was in high school, and we were so hooked! That was about my favorite Masterpiece Theater ever. Im really hoping the remake lives up to my memory. ..

I absolutely adored Poldark as a little girl, and found time had not diminished his appeal when I watched the DVDs a couple of years ago. I don't think any remake could improve upon the original, but it will be fun to see!

  9. Greetings WTMlings! I found this forum after reading TWTM and deciding to homeschool my then youngest for the 2013-2014 school year. I registered in February of 2014, and am finally posting for the first time today.

This forum has been a wonderful resource on our journey; I have found so much helpful information here. Thank you to all who have asked and answered questions about everything from curricula to the dreaded "s word" question and everything in between.

DH and I are parents to a happily schooled teen, a happily homeschooled third grader, and a darling baby. I like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain. Just kidding. I prefer mojitos and Cuba librés to piña coladas. I'm looking forward to posting and getting to know all of you.
