Thank you everyone - I really appreciate your feedback!

Thank you both! Off to check out these. Anyone use myhomeschoolmathclass.com for Geometry?

Looking for feedback on favorite Geometry course for nonmathy kids? Need an incremental, step by step Geometry course that is visual and uses mastery. If it is video based or live, need a presenter that speaks slowly and clearly. Mr. D Math and Unlock Math speakers speak too fast for my kiddos. Both have some auditory processing issues, so the more visual the better. Thank you much!

Thank you Root Ann! I appreciate the feedback.

Looking for feedback on the American History book "America: The Last Best Hope" by Bill Bennett. Has anyone used this? What did you think?
It looks like Homeschool Connections will be offering a full year American History via a live online class using Volumes I and II of this book in 2018-2019.
Thanks!

Margaret,
Thank you for the detailed answer. I will write back over the weekend when I have a bit more time.

Has anyone used NARHS for high school for an accredited diploma, especially for a non-college bound student?

Thank you everyone. I appreciate the suggestions. RootAnn, I agree that Homeschool Connections is probably going to be my best bet, especially if it is a live class. My son benefits from interaction. Rosika, I did check out the Rolling Acres Tradito Nosta program but it states it is a Literature/Socratic discussion class, not a history class. It looks like they do give the students access to an optional independent study course on ancient history, but that would be more credits/coursework than I am looking for at this point. I just need 1 history credit that is not too classical or super rigorous, but with a Catholic worldview.
-
Yes, son needs online and live and I need this outsourced to another teacher.
-
I suspect that Kolbe is too rigorous, very classical. My son is not that.
-
I am looking for a live online provider for History presented from a Catholic worldview for my rising 10th grader for next year. American or World. I know about Homeschool Connections. Any other recommendations please? I am not looking for rigor. Just a basic course, and doable for an average student.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Just getting back to normal after the Christmas break.
I'm so grateful for all the wonderful responses. Thank you all! Youve given me so many good leads to investigate with my son.

St. Mary's University in San Antonio does have some significant financial aid for strong students who want to major in business. The student body is predominantly Catholic at the undergraduate level and fairly conservative; the faculty and over-arching school atmosphere is not overtly Catholic
University of Dallas is enthusiastically Catholic. It has a strong core curriculum with a liberal arts focus. The theater department is strong; there are also a number of students who participate in the theater productions but who do not major in theater. I don't think they have architecture or graphic design; I do not know of a separate film major, but there are a number of film courses taught through the language and English departments. They are homeschool friendly.
Thank you ....shall look into both

Does anyone know the financial criteria for College of the Ozarks? How low must a family's income be to be considered?
-
I work in college admissions. I think as long as they can identify from the transcript that he completed one full credit of each, there shouldn't be a problem.
Milknhoney,
Thank you; that is what I needed to know, and I am glad to hear that. I really like this history instructor, and this is just the way he has the courses set up for next year.
I have another question if you don't mind:
Do colleges want to see the specific course name or the general name of the course on the transcript?
For example the world history course that is 1 semester and .5 credit is called "Inventions that Revolutionized the World". Should I call it that on the transcript or just call it "World History"?
The American history course that is 1 semester and .5 credit is called "Early American History 1492-1763". Should the transcript have that specific name, or just "American History"?
Thanks a bunch!
-
Thank you. What I meant was - is it acceptable to colleges for a student to fulfill one American history credit by breaking it into .5 credit in 10th and .5 credit in 11th or 12th? Same with World History. Sorry I wasn't clear.
-
Next year for 10th grade I was planning on having my son take a half year (.5 credit) of World History in the fall, followed by half year (.5 credit) of American History in the spring. This is the way the online history instructor will be offering it next year. Is this generally acceptable to colleges?
This year, in 9th grade, he is taking a full year of World Geography.
I have not planned out 11th and 12th yet.
Thank you for your insights.

Thank you both so much. I am strongly considering the Excelsior Illustrator 101 class as he can get started this spring!
-
Janet,
Is that due to the large number of online students?
Kathy,
Thank you for the suggestion of St. Edwards University. I shall look it up!
-
Kinsa and Good Grief,
I will be looking at your suggestions - many thanks!

Thank you all for your feedback. I will definitely check out that book. I do realize that plans can change. We are of course working on saving money and building a solid academic foundation. Regarding a large public school - I don't think that is going to be a good fit now or ever, just knowing my son.
I think the location is the most negotiable of everything on my list.
What about Grand Canyon University? It has all the majors I listed except architecture (that would be a bit of a stretch for my son - he is very arty/social/creative and less mathy), is a private Christian school, and seems on the more affordable side. It is in AZ, but again location is the most negotiable factor.
The majors at Grand Canyon University that might be of interest to my son are:
BA in Advertising and Graphic Design
BA in Communications
BA in Digital Film: Production
BA in Theater and Drama
BA in Business
BA in Marketing

Thank you ladies - you've given me some things to research!
