  1. I'm just curious how other children have done with standardized testing after using My Father's World Learning God's story (1st). We will be moving to Virginia and I read that standardized testing is required for all students who turn 6 by Sep 30. My son will turn 6 on Sep 23 so he'll be a little over 6 and a half when he is tested. I'm a little stressed about it because I had no intention of testing him until second or third grade.

  2. I really love MFW K and I think I'm going to like 1st also. It is a very gentle approach which I felt was a great way to start but next year I want something more challenging for him. I'll continue to use MFW for history but I want a more intense phonics\grammar\writing program. I've researched PR a lot and it seems like an amazing program that I'M excited to learn from.

    Good luck to you!

  3. First, I want to say that I don't know any homeschool parent who has ever felt fully adequate or qualified. Take heart, you can do this. You are the best teacher for your children because you care about their education more than anyone.

I've heard, "I knew that already Mom" from my 5 year old son about 1000 times while doing school. I thought I was going to lose my mind because he simply wouldn't listen to what I was telling him because he already knew it…even though he didn't. And because he wasn't listening to me, he was struggling and getting frustrated because he couldn't do it, even though he already "knew it". Finally I told him that even if he already knows what I am saying, he has to be quiet and listen while Mommy is teaching. If at the end of his lesson he wants to tell me what he already knew then he can but not during the lesson. I found that simply by making him be quiet, he started picking things up so much better. And his pride wasn't hurt ;)

  4. I just finished My Father's World Kindergarten with my son and we are starting MFW 1st in January as a sort of "advanced kindergarten". He flew through the k program and is ready for something more challenging.

After we finish the first grade program we plan to move on to using Phonics Road, whenever that is…we're a teach\learn all year with no set "school year" type of family for now. My biggest question for anyone who has used these two programs is will they mesh together well? I'm not worried about repeating some stuff but I am worried about forming bad habits before getting to the phonics road.

    Thanks!
