  1. Thanks! I checked all of those except the RFP buy sale trade FB group. Just requested to join :)
  2. Can anyone recommend where I can look for Michael Clay Thompson (MCT) Island level to purchase used?
  3. Do spelling programs cover syllabication? We have Spelling Power, but haven't come across it yet. Explode the Code goes over it, I just don't care for the program.
  4. Yes, we already have the book (I'm using it for my younger daughter). Just to clarify, my daughter can already read chapter books...around the Boxcar Children level. But, I feel like she still needs phonics instruction such as the actual rules, syllabication, etc. But, now that I'm looking, I don't even see syllable rules unless I'm just missing them. I don't want to skip too far ahead in the book in case the book introduces things in a different order than the other resources we have used and I accidentally skip over something that she hasn't been taught. But I also don't want to waste a bunch of time going over things that she already knows. Wish there was a placement test :/
  5. My daughter was taught to read using 100 EZ lessons, has been doing Explode the Code online since then, but I'm not really liking the online version. I would like to continue in her phonics instruction with OPGTR, but I'm not sure where to start with her. I know it's not at the beginning. Does anyone know if there is a placement test available for it?
  6. Thanks! If that's the case, then I think I, too, will use just the instructors text so I can merge writing with our Biblioplan week and science.
  7. Thanks everyone! One more question...Can the Instructor's text be used with just the consumable student sheets, or would I need to purchase the actual workbooks?
  8. My daughter will be in the 1st grade in the fall and we are planning on using First Language Lessons level 1. I was also planning on using the WWE level 1 workbook, but then I noticed that FLL says it covers grammar and writing and that I would only need to supplement with phonics and spelling. Do I need WWE or will FLL provide enough writing practice?
  9. If you think there may be holes in her knowledge of phonics though she is a fluent reader, consider Explode the Code online version. You pay for a one year membership and get access to all 8 levels. The program tailors to the child by having them only work on skills they still need to develop. It would be a lot less expensive, less time wasted on stuff she already knows, and would ensure there are no gaps in her phonics education. The cheapest way I have seen to purchase it is through Homeschool Buyers Co-op.
